Eurogamer has a hands on of the new WRC game that is supposed to come out this fall. Judging by the article, it sounds promising in that pick and play style with a hope for some (a little) realism? I've never played the Playstation WRC games as I had an xbox, and I have dirt for the 360 which is all fun, but by far the most challenging rally game I played on a console was Richard Burns Rally on the xbox. Hopefully it'll be along those lines?

Anyone else have any other info on the game? Opinions? Given the state of the WRC, anyone still interested in a WRC game?

Rally games was one of my favorite type of games for the PS2. Bought most of them. It made me kind of sad that Evolution never made any WRC games for the PS3. Though fun the MotorStorm games are, it's not the same. Always liked the WRC series better than Codemasters Colin McRae games (not that they where bad or anything, just liked the "feel" of WRC more). The Richard Burns game was fantastic with the simulation, but also frustrating as hell because of that. Difficult to get up to speed, not to mention getting to the end of the stages! That's realistic for you, one mistake and you're out.

I hope this new WRC game will be good. The Dirt games I have not bothered with.

But with GT5 having the official license, I think I'd rather have the variety on one purchase.

I'm looking forward to GT5 as well, but I think we'll be lucky if Polyphony has made anything remotely similar to a real rally type time trial mode complete with co-driver and stages (not circuits). If the earlier GT games is anything to go by..... :|

Don't have a ps3 so GT is not an option for me. I don't mind the Dirt game, but the fact that you have to race all those other classes is annoying as hell - in this instance, variety is not a better thing. I like that it focuses itself on one aspect only. Hopefully it'll have the full contingent of older cars as well (which Dirt has a nice selection of to be fair).

I must admit I hadn't thought of it that way. I suppose it's like an F1 game having GP2 and Porsche Supercup as add ons, as opposed to just the F1. To me there's appeal in both approaches. Mind you I'm so crap at driving games anyway. The only one I ever managed to complete well was Geoff Crammond's F1GP on the Amiga.

I'm not good either - I just enjoy playing them. Given my time constraints at home, I find it very annoying that I have to go through a career mode in Dirt to get to all the tasty vehicles. I have forza3 and I spend all my time in the time challenges since I have access to all the cars off the bat. That being said, I'll probably play the F1 and WRC games properly from scratch (albeit at a manageable difficulty level).

Only game I completed was...don't think I've ever completed a game - closest was - pgr2 at the gold level with a few silver cone challenge. So games have a much longer longevity with me than the average car game enthusiast :-).

I also greatly dislike how DIRT2 forces you into the career mode to unlock things.

But i will say, to anyone who has played it for an hour or two and discounted it, to give it the benefit of the doubt and persist, when you unlock all-star mode it gets a lot more engrossing because the top speeds of the cars get de-limited, the driving experience is a lot more rewarding of skill. And with regard to the variety of races, by all-star level there is plenty of locations and tracks for rally/trailblazer(like a longer rally stage) to keep it fun if that is all you care for.

The worst thing about DIRT2 to me was the insulting celebrity driver line-up.

I'd love a full on up to date WRC sim though.

The WRC is GT5 is a few cars and some rally tracks, nothing more.

WRC 2010 (developed by Black Bean of SBK fame) is a yearly franchise in the vein of the Evolution Studios games that were on the PS2.

Given thats its release is between F1 2010 and GT5 I probably won't be getting it. The WRC should be better as a series next year which should make for better source material for the game, so I may pick up WRC 2011.

Looking at the specs the car selection is pretty basic. A bit disappointed that they don't include some of the older cars in it. Oh, well - I guess in that sense it is staying true to the state of wrc with such little variety of vehicles. However, if it drives good on the consoles, shouldn't matter too much.

I cant seem to be able to configure my steering wheel for this demo. It only accepts keyboard commands.

Are they for real???

EDIT - I did find how to use wheel and pedals but the game will only recognise the wheel as im using CST pedals... should work with standard set though.

Just played the demo on the 360 and was not too disappointed. Playing with the pad, the handling is ok, and there's a decent sense of speed. The feeling through the pad was ok, kind of reminded me of RBR on the old XBox i.e. enough of a sense that you were holding the car but just a whisker away from spinning out. The braking is realistic - can't slam on the brakes at speed as the car just slides at least in the finnish demo stage. Once I got the hang of it (there was no abs setting a-la forza), it was fun and I played the same stage for about an hour. I got within 20 seconds of the leader on max difficulty (still in last place) :-). There is a better sense of control when racing with manual gears.

The graphics could have been better, but the driving is fun enough that I didn't pay attention. Another aspect that could've of been better is the sound - didn't sound loud enough or deep enough, but that could be me not wanting to try my luck on finding out whether my kids are heavy sleepers.

To me anyway, the game seems promising enough that I will probably buy it when released. Also read that you can buy a group B car pack! Sweet.

Edit: Raikkonen seems to have gotten the hang of rallying as he was up in the time sheets in Finland :).

As far as I know there will only be 20 ( ) tracks when GT5 comes out, with 70 variations. Not much to expect a big competition. Of course I'm expecting a shitload of DLC afterward.

Anyone any idea what i need to do/reinstall?

Played some more - the handling improves significantly if you change the diff settings away from default. The graphics from any external view and replays are quite poor for a game released today, in-car or bumper, I tend not to notice too much. The sound frankly is terrible. That being said, I am having fun driving it, and at least with the pad on the xbox, it's quite playable. You can unsettle the car with a tap of the brakes, and a quick flick of the steering, and then power sideways through a nice long left/right 4 :-). A real pity about the sound though.

played the PS3 demo yesterday, deleted it straight after 1 attempt on the Finland option. Not promising, maybe the 2011 will improve.

Oh no more Codemasters rubbish, someone show them how to make a realistic look environment please ! It looks like the background and lighting on a game from the Sega Megadrive. I wasted my money on that F1 game hoping they'd improved but I'd already fallen for that trap when I decided to buy Dirt2 and Grid, I assuming they must've improved having seen the way other companies deal with it but no they've apparently learnt nothing.
How many rubbish rally games did they do before the people who did Richard Burns Rally did their first ever rally game and blew them away instantly. The Ferrari Virtual Academy thing and the Rally and F1 elements from the new GT5 will make them look even more pathetic.

ummm...I don't think Codemasters had anything to do with this Rally game?

But on consoles, the dilema is that you make a decent driving game, no one buys it...see Race Pro as a good example, and RBR in the previous console generation. Shame really.

At least the Dirt 3 previews (will be the last "Dirt") look very promising.

Amazing, here in Norway they want 500Kr in the shops (360 version). That's the equivalent of $85, £53, or €61!!! After playing the demo, while I don't mind the handling, the other aspects do not justify this cost here. Sorry, but this is a no buy for me as much as I like rallying.

Market prices for new PS3 and Xbox360 games at supermarkets are 69,90 euros or more. I get my games from amazon.co.uk. :)

Ah - but Norway is not part of the EU, so we get hit up with customs on purchases (over 250Kr I think).

Seems like game is getting ratings from bad to average.

Reviewers complaining about obsolete sound, graphic and game being very short and limited.
