I haven't seen a thread started, and it's less than 30 days away, so here we go...

Is there a plan for a TNF'er meet-up somewhere at the circuit?

Does anyone know if there will be a special presentation, in the spirit of the all Mini race from 2009? I gather that John Surtees will be the honored driver. Goodwood seems to have been less communicative than usual about the events-within-the-event for this year.

Jack

I think David meant that Ferret Fotographics (Ted Walker) won't have a stall this year.

Can anybody suggest an alternative meeting place?

As not everyone will be there or be available on Friday, can I suggest we make the rendezvous for all 3 days at 1pm. But where?

Thanks Duncan - yes, that's what I meant

There are a number of possibilities. I'd personally prefer a site inside the circuit, but suspect the majority would prefer to be outside. Feel free to make suggestions...

I'll make a suggestion then :)

Outside the entrance to the Earls Court Motorshow - it's a large white building, that is easy to spot and has one entrance ( possibly more exits :D ).
From vague recollections there's usually a Hendricks stand giving out free samples of G & Ts close by - also the holding paddock for the cars and drivers for the next race.

The area around the Motorshow gets very crowded and is not ideal for a group standing around chatting. Would it be better to meet at the nearby Spitfire Bar - i think that's what it's called, close to the aircraft display?

That's equally crowded, if it's the one I'm thinking about.

Either venue should be OK if TNFers stand clear of the crowd - and my feeling is that'd be easier at 'Earls Court' than at the Spitfire

But I'm happy to consider anything :)

How about we meet at the entrance to the Motorshow at 1pm prompt, then after a few minutes move onto the Spitfire bar. I say this , only because, most of us know each other - but it would be difficult for a newbie to spot us at the Spitfire bar ( as it is quite extended on left and right sides) so it gives them more of a chance to find ( the Goodwood TNF regulars) and introduce themselves.
Or alternatively , at the start of the static aero display...which is usually at the end of the Spitfire bar?

I look forward to putting faces to names on the Friday.

Over on the Monterey Historics thread there's an outrageous claim that Brits wear funny hats, when there's only one Brit (me!) in the official photo.

Special features include the Saturday's special tribute to John Surtees in the 50th anniversary year of his very first race on four wheels, which took place at Goodwood in 1960 (first motor race he had ever witnessed from start to finish, and in which he finished 2nd to Jim Clark) - and then Sunday's VERY special tribute to 'The Few' upon the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which embraced the skies above RAF Westhampnett (later the Goodwood Motor Circuit). Hopefully, both should prove to have been unmissable...

Oh - and there's a pretty darned comprehensive tribute each day to BRM on the 60th anniversary of the marque's maiden victory, scored by Reg Parnell at Goodwood in September, 1950. Let's the hope the weather for the Revival is rather better than it was that weekend...

All usual disclaimers totally ignored - DCN ;)

maybe it's just me, but I can't see how these 'improvements' make for better viewing - it'll just be another area where the standard ticket holder can't get a decent view of the circuit for the being in the way.

I know the event is run to make money, but it is incredibly crowded, to the point that unless you buy a very expensive seat in the stands, you simply can't see the racing from several areas. so what choice is left? spend even more money to actually seee the racing you have paid over £100 to see?

If they really want to improve things for spectators, ban people from bringing their ******* picnic chairs, or from standing in front of people sitting on the bankings. That would actually make a big difference to many, and manners (as I was always told) cost nothing.

Goodwood is announcing a number of significant enhancements for the 2010 event, including ... a larger retail market

That may be so, but I understand that one very well-known book dealer and another equally well-known photograph retailer have been told that there is no space for them, in spite of them having supported the event from the outset.

It's a great fun match, taken deadly seriously. Well worth coming to. Each year so far after the match there's been a stunning Spitfire display over the pitch, originally Ray Hanna, last year Lee Proudfoot , quite breathtaking.

Does this mean that I have to buy a ticket for the roving grandstands to have a decent view of the racing.
I will attend the Revival for the first time, so I don't have much knowledge of the facilities.
And how essential is it to wear period gear to get near the cars in the paddoc?

You can get a decent view if you move round the circuit a bit - the "in-crowd" there for the social event tend to congregate round the start/ finish area.

Period gear: some make the effort, some don't. You must have a jacket and tie and a special paddock pass to be allowed into the main "Formula 1" paddock, but you can see a lot from outside it . But the paddocks with cars for the supporting racing and all the facilities are outside the enclosed area. (the fence is only about 3 ft high and a young Australian I met one year told me it is easy to climb over)

You get decent views out at the back of the circuit, it's just the nearer the entrance the busier it gets and I find it very frustarating that you can't get a decent view of the track because of the crowds, many of whom don't seem to have any interest in the racing, and often have their back to the circuit, but won't let you get a view as they need room to chat.....

the banks at the first corner are well banked, so offer good spectating, even when crouded, until people in front feel the need to stand to take photos, never mind the effect it has on those behind.
