RONAN? Is Mika Hakkinen a closet Boyzone fan? and HUGO? Named after a sponsor? That's the ultimate in creepiness! Good job Durex aren't sponsoring any more!

I heard about Hugo yes, but that Ronan is new.

I can't believe it's about Hugo Boss and Ron Dennis!!?? That would be tackiness beyond belief. Hugo is a Finnish name, maybe a family name for Hakkinens. Isn't U2's Bono's son called Gucci Q?

Katherine,

Giving a kid his name after Durex for sponsor obligations...

Are "Hugo" and "Ronan" real finnish names ? Do not sound like it to me. Well, but then we do have "Gina Maria Schumacher", a real german name :)

His initials will then be H R H, ie "His Royal Highness". And Mika is currently the king of Finland, so...

I don't where Mika and Erjan got name Ronan. Maybe Hakkinen likes Boyzone/Keating, after all he has been know to like Michael Jackson! Any other famous Ronan's?
Hugo is a old finnish name but I really don't know so many finnish Hugo's who are born after 1950s.

Hugo=mr boss
Ron-=dennis
-an= Adrian Newey? :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Ronan is definetely a cool name (thanks for the info, ggg). Sounds good. I don't like Hugo so much. He could've taken another (better) finish name starting with H, like Heikki or Harri.

Heikki HŠkkinen would've been cool. An alliteration with H.H. and two double-'k's. Other suggestions around ?

I'm always interested in the reasoning behind the names parents give their children. Does anyone know where Ma and Pa Hakk got these two names?

Well, if Schumachers will have more kids, they are sure named: boy - Bernie Schumacher or girl - Fiorano Schumacher.

I think Häkkinens' baby hasn't official name yet?

hold on, before everyone makes fun of Mika....

first this Hugo Ronan is comfirmed????

if it is, is there any Finnish fans who can tell us whether these are regular names in Finland? it might turn out that Hugo is not uncommon in that part of the world.

From what I know, it's a Finnish custom to not make the name of a new born baby public for 3 months, so I think we'll all have to wait a little while longer.

Yeah, in fact what is the source of all this? Everybody and their grandmother is going "it's hugo" here in Finland. Who told them? And I suckerpunched like an old wife myself.

My great uncle was Hugo. We used to refer to him as the "crazy hugo". Later we called everybody we thought crazy "hugos". Ronan is not a Finnish name. Harri Häkkinen is Mika's father's name. How about Mikael Häkkinen.. that's a Finnish name. Jaska Häkkinen is a Finnish name, close to Jacques. Petro Häkkinen to celebrate the best current pilot in F1.

I think Ronan (or Ronin) is a real cool name.

It's on my short list. I would consider naming my kid that if I have a boy. I think it sounds real neat.

Hugo is an old Finnish name, it was pretty common some 70 years ago, not anymore though. Ronin is not a Finnish name. It could be interpreted in Finnish as a genitive of Ron (Ron's). So theoretically we could say, that now Ron (Dennis) owns both Mika and Mika's son.

I'm obsessed. I did a search on the meaning of Ronan (couldn't find Ronin)

Two origins:

1. Irish, meaning "little seal" (huh????)

2. Celtic, meaning "Oath"

I still think it's cool, but what's this "little seal" thing?

If Mika had been driving for Lotus when they had the kid it would be named Hitachi Collins.

"Les Miserables" moments

CDNgrl,

Seal and oath, they're kind of mean the same in the end, I think.

K-one. Well done on fooling many poor saps. The baby's name won't be known until January when it is christened. Hugo Ronan indeed....

Dear Richie Jenkins. It is true that baby's name is not "confirmed" until the christening, so this Hugo Ronan is a kind of temporaly name. But this name is soooo weird that they must have really thought about giving this name. It is not like you pulled that out of hat like Bob Smith or something.

Can you say "circular reasoning"? Besides, Hugo isn't that weird a name - Balthazar or Maximillian would really be weird, but somehow I doubt that the Häkkinen's have given them much thought :)

Before I would name my child I would ask myself two questions. One, is it going to cause my child to get tremendously goofed on by other kids and two, will it fit on a scantron? This may sound odd, but I find it practical. Just put yourself in their shoes. If the answer is "no" then go for it.

I have a feeling it is more a case of the name being confirmed when a form has been filled out and filed at the proper authorities.
