A question for TNFers - In what car is Joe Cocker sitting on the cover of his new album Hard Knocks?

Looks like a Rochdale Olympic to me.

I thought there was some medieval rivalry between those from Yorkshire and Lancashire that precluded Yorkshiremen from sitting in cars built in Lancashire ?

Did the Rochdale Olympic have a sunroof option ?

The real give away that Joe is sitting in a Porsche 356 is the 1/4 light window.

I'd go with the Porsche as well, those window trims are wrong for a Rochdale.

I hear tell that Joe once listened to a record by Gracie Fields...

Checking the Rochdale site, I think I agree with you; I can't see a single one with 1/4 lights.

The bright work and 1/4 light say it's not a Bond Equipe.

This thread on a Porsche 356 forum would seem to confirm it's a 356:

http://www.356regist...5f7e1a5bc9a8b5a

and on this other Porsche 356 page:

http://356.typepad.f...er-on-tour.html

there's another photo of Joe with the car, which confirms (to me, at least) its Porsche-ness.

Most definitely a Porsche 356.

Joe lives nearby (well, OK, 150 miles away), in Crawford, Colorado, a sleepy little village that is often part of the route of the Colorado Grand.

I own a Rochdale Olympic, although not for much longer, and it's definitely a Porsche 356. Some owners added sunroofs, some added Morris 1000 window surrounds with quarter lights, but the screen to far too upright for an Olympic.

Strange, looks more like a Renault Alpine A110 in that one. Same car as the first pic?

The rear side window if the Alpine does not have as smooth a top curve as that of the 356 in the second picture.

I'm sure you're right, as the A110 also has a more raked B pillar. Think I was thrown by how little of the rear window wrap-around you can see in the first pic, compared with the second. Excuses, excuses :)

I'd be rather surprised if any Alpine A110 ever had a sunroof, they were fibreglass of course like all Rochdales, and the car is these pics is undoubtedly all steel.

Not really quibbling, but quite a few Scimitar GTEs had a sunroof. Gilberns too, I think.

That wasn't quite what I meant, sunroofs on GRP cars are quite possible, though it's difficult to make an entirely satisfactory job of them, you couldn't do one like the car in the pic. My Dad used to have a Scimitar GTE with one, and I thought the Scimitar was one of the most horrible cars ever built, I absolutely hated it. It almost came to a nasty end when a mechanic managed to start the engine while the car was up on a lift, that shouldn't have been possible with an automatic, but he must have by-passed something or other. The car lurched forward off the lift, and into the workshop wall, whereupon the entire front end fell off. It was patched up by Specialised Mouldings as a favour to their bank manager (Dad), and one of their employees (me), but it was even more horrible once back on the road. The worst thing of all though, was that dad had chopped in a quite nice BMW 2002 when he bought the thing. The GTE was painted in a Fiat colour Positano Yellow, which my mother always referred to as "Cat sick". Usual apologies for the lurch OT.

Joe Cocker was born less than a mile from where I lived back then. A Sheffield man would never lie.

Rochdales were built at (in?) Littledale Mill, Rochdale (I think) NOT NOT NOT Manchester!
