Is this a future option for F1, especially with night races?

DO WANT! I often end up stopping to switch from tinted spectacles to clear spectacles on the way home from work, which happens to be directly west. Sometimes there isn't a safe place to stop and I end up having to ride with suboptimal vision. Sucks. My solution to date has been to adjust my commute times to avoid it, but it isn't always feasible

Hasn't this technology been around for a while? Photo receptive / reactive etc.?

My glasses are light sensitive. Only bad point is they darken up under bright lights. Normal street lights are ok but very well lit rooms or venues cause them to get darker.

Why not wear photosensitive classes under your visor - they don't have to be prescription lenses.

My welding helmet auto-darkens but it doesn't adjust the shade on the fly.

there's never before been a solution quite like this one.

The technology have been used in welding helmets for over a decade now.

Unless people are riding round in welding helmets the statement is still valid

Don't buy photo-chromatic lenses if you drive a tin-topped Saab. I did. Then I found out it used a UV-blocking windscreen and...well...

You have very obviously never been to a 3rd world country where the law says nothing more than they have to wear something!

Everyday I see woven basket type helmets, a small percetage of real helmets but the greatest number is construction hats with no straps - and yes I have seen welding masks!

All too frequently I see only the rider with a helmet too, usually Dad while the kids and wife have none :well:

I cycle to work through London everyday and until yesterday never needed a helmet. Pissing down with rain (figures), some guy decides to waltz out into the road in front of me without even a cursory glance. Slammed the anchors on but being wet with reduced grip and braking power couldn't stop in time. Did an endo just before we hit and his face made a great cushion for my helmet AND stopped me going over the handlebars. Maybe those Dads on mopeds aren't as daft as you think

It is surprisingly sensitive too, the glass doesn't just go dense at the sight of a welding glare, mine (don't laugh cheapy) is sensitive to room lights, just darkening a bit.
