Hi!
I am looking for the book "Teretonga 25".
It is out of print, I think. Who knows
a good source/second hand book shop?

Island,
Try the National library of NZ in Wellington. They have a web site which, for the time being, the URL name escapes me (its buried in my favorites folder but I am stuck on this forum and I aint ready to move!).
Should be easy to locate though.
They have a very good selection of anything related to Kiwi history. As well as this they even have a huge selection of 'Motorsport' magazines - back in the days when it had real content and history!!

The book is:
Teretonga 25 1957-82 Marilyn Bunce/Keith Douglas/Donald McDonald 1982 Southland Sports Car Club Inc
There were quite a lot of them around in Australia when I bought mine late in 1997. I will keep my eyes open to see if I can spot one.
Along similar lines, I am after:
The Racing Years: The History of Waimate 50
If anyone spots one anywhere I would be pleased to know about it.
Someone might also be able to tell me how much is different in the recent book:
"A Classic World & When the Engine Roars"
by George Begg, from the earlier book by the same author,
"When the Engine Roars".

Have you all tried contacting Motorbooks in Cremorne? They may be able to help.

Three places that might be able to help, "Hard to find Books", The mall Onehunga Auckland, 0064 634 4340, or 0064 9 446 0300, both have good selection of older motor sport books, then a place near Hamilton called High Speed Books, hsb@wave,co.nz, or good old Eoin Young, C/o "The Barley Mow ,East Horsley, Blighty.Good luck.

Thank you for your help.
Huw, do you know the mail/e-mail address
of the "Hard to find books" shop? Is it at
The Mall Onehunga at Auckland or is there
another book shop?

Dennis
I actually bought a whole heap of NZ motor racing books at Motor Books Australia in Military Road Cremorne NSW in December 1997, including the Teretonga 25.
It is possible they might still have the odd one or two.
But they did not have the Waimate book (magazine style, I think).
The Kiwis have been very good at recording their motor racing history. I often wonder how they do it, considering their small population and the obvious difficulties with volume.

Barry,
Motorbooks at Cremorne told me that the
"Teretonga 25" book is out of stock.
Do you know some good "second hand" book
shops?

I can't think of any off-hand that might have the book in stock. It's just a matter of luck now, whether or not you stumble across one.
I spend a major part of my life poring through book catalogues from dealers all over the world, and visiting motoring book shops and second-hand book shops. If I see one, I will let you know.
But I have to warn you, I have searched for 25 and 30 years before finding some books I have wanted.
Which reminds me of a hard-learned lesson. If you do come across what you want and it seems too expensive, buy it anyway. If you pass it up, the chances are you'll pay two, three, four times the price for it later - or else you might never see it again.
There is a book shop in America I have bought books from that has a motto:
"The only book you regret is the one you didn't buy".
I have found that to be true... but then I am obsessive...

Barry,
A few posts ago you requested info on 'A classic world & when the engine roars' By George Begg. In the last few days, while on a business related trip, I tracked 3 copies of this book down at 'Technical books'in Newmarket, Auckland.
The book is definately an extension of Beggs original book, and is available at a cost of NZ $ 80. It is in hardback form with good quality (glossy) pages. You have Tech book outlets throughout Australia so This would be a good starting place if you need more info!

Thanks for that.
I mainly wanted to know if it had enough additional information to make it worth buying when I already have the original "When the Engine Roars".
It sounds like it should be worth buying.
