Magny-Cours but with less interesting corners?

How's Phakisa doing these days?

if a formula one race did happen in south africa how would we be able to distinguise between the sound of an engine and a vuvuzela.

getting tired of seeing these "stadium" style tracks with everything compressed into as little space as possible

Looks like Tsukuba to me but with more "angled" corners.

Looks OK. I'd say it has fairly interesting corners actually. For a folded over, modern style circuit, it could be much worse. Interesting that it's anti-clockwise. Seems to be in fashion nowadays (Abu Dhabi, Korea, Austin). Wonder why that is?

I don't hear much about Phakisa these days now that the MotoGP is no longer held there.

South Africa is keen on hosting a grand prix but it is dependant on part of the revenues being made available to develop motorsport in previously disadvantaged areas/black kids. That means taking some of Bernie's money...

Anyway, I like Kyalami but it will not meet with the standards the FIA set out nowadays. The track is very narrow and an upgrade will cost plenty. They might as well just build a new circuit but not that crap that they illustrate in that article.

I think it looks like the A1-Ring with chicanes (including one on the exit of a corner, for some reason). It would be nice to have South Africa back on the calendar so that F1 would race on all the inhabited continents - it's just a shame the old Kyalami layout doesn't exist any more!

The old Kyalami layout of the early 80's was a classic.

Why does SA need another autodrome? I remember when they had 4 F1 races-Kyalami,Killarney,East London & Westmead(Durban)What is the current state of these? Best location must be the street circuit at Durban where they had an A1GP race

I can't comment on Westmead but I lived in Johannesburg/East London/Cape Town due to my dads business travels. The East London track is absolutely horrible, Kyalami is bumpy and narrow, Killarney is a very fast circuit but safety would be an issue. Basically they all won't get the nod by the FIA. It would be better to build a new track and preferrably in Durban due to the nice climate.

Looks exciting. I like sequences after each straights, it looks like encouraging attack from outside.

Isn't that in District 9? What'd happen to all the aliens?!
