No. Gas is a VERY small percentage of our energy usage. Out of 1.500.000 households only 35.000 uses gas. Thats about 2% and it's usually only for cooking, not heating. We can live without Russian gas.

 

Back OnT. Does anyone know of reliable news sources where we can follow the latest events regarding sanctions on Russia that could have an effect on the race in Sochi? AFAIK its green light right now, but i guess that can change.

Now i think there is zero chance a race could be cancelled as there is not much time left. More than that the latest sanctions doesn't touch race itself and looking at how 'quickly' they approve that i have doubt they will come up with next package in space of one month. Considering more and more small countries are finding it counter productive.

And Ukraine of course. Not to mention the huge effect on pressure in the pipelines and systems. While there is some storage of gas, supplies will run out fast if they have to fill Russia's gap -and much industry would have to be shut down in Western Europe as well). There is no way that Norway, England, Holland etc can fill the supply gap. The winter is coming, night temperatures are already dropping, if by the end of September gas would be cut off, more than a hundred million of people will be without gas, rual areas without heat (assuming city supplies hot water based heating they will be less affected), without cooking and possibly without electricity. It will create social unrest. Cutting off the gas would bring Europe to its knees in a few weeks with irrepairable damage to the trust in the political European System and huge damage to industry, tax income etc.

Russia will never cut off gas by its own will but it could come as a consequence by transit restriction by Ukraine with what Russia could do nothing about.

Mercedes and Renault have their own factories in Russia that won't be sanctioned anyway.

Some decent gameplay in Sochi track with F1 2014.
Looks a bit faster than expected.

Also, from the start line to the first corner is a loooong way, longer than Barcellona i think. 
I expect some exciting first lap battles and wheel to wheel action at least.

It's too flat. I know there are other tracks on the calender that are flat, but these have a scenic view around them in their own respects. They have a character to them, this is just as dull as dishwater. 

 

Saying that I do like how fast the first corner is, it's basically going to be a massive run into turn two with all the cars, so could be an exciting beginning (or overly cautious one).

I hope the race is fun, but in terms of excitement, it looks even worse than Valencia at this point.

 

This is on top of the fact Russia should not be allowed to host **** for anyone right now with the way they're acting.

What's with the double white lines on new tracks (Abu Dhabi, COTA, Sochi)? Is the outer white line (incorrectly) the track limit for the stewards?

I thought Tereschchenko's and Heidfeld's accidents would surely mean the end of sausage kerbs, but there are sausage kerbs at just about every corner of this track. Most of them are quite short (in length), but I fear they could still launch a car into the cockpit area of another car.

I don't like the pit entry at T17 either. Get it wrong under braking and you'll head straight across the track. There's a small sausage kerb at that corner as well.

DTM, SBK and WTCC have all raced there. The WTCC races have been entertaining - a tendency to run five wide into turn one is good fun, but unlikely in an open-wheeler.

Floods and other natural disasters aren't related with financial situation. Besides one more wet GP is good, i like unpredictable races.

Just a few days now to the global stock market crash ??    And the danger of a last minute collapse of Russian GP as foxsports.com reported in July 2015 was dismissed by the Russian GP chiefs as I was unaware about until I found a article about it at motorsport.com 

Time will tell how it will end, but if it´s not in danger to collapse the goverment in Moscow have payed they bailout $69M.

Vladimir Putin has given his approval to the switch to floodlights for the Russian grand prix at Sochi.

In August, promoter Sergei Vorobyov travelled to Spa for talks with Bernie Ecclestone, with both the Russian and the F1 supremo declaring that the potential switch to a night race for 2017 is on track.

And now, the Russian news agency Ria Novosti has quoted Dmitry Kozak, the deputy prime minister, as saying talks are under way on the extension of Sochi's F1 contract beyond 2020.

"There are also talks on moving the race from daytime to night-time, because these (night) races are more popular," he said.

Ria Novosti published a conversation between Kozak and Putin, the Russian president, in which Putin eventually approved the plan for a night race.

"The race at night? Then nothing will be seen!" declared Putin.

"On the contrary," Kozak explained, "what is seen is more spectacular. In Singapore, held always at night, there is additional coverage because the TV pictures are so colourful.

"At night it will be even more beautiful," he promised.

Putin then responded: "Well, alright."
