Seb's going to wheelspin everywhere if it's really wet with those short gears XD

I don't see how a short 7th gear is going to create wheelspin. Further, the RB has been amazing in terms of limiting wheelspin and the Renault engine is one of the softest engine in acceleration.

I hope it, i think hamilton will run with wet setup

That was my initial thought too, especially with the new part over the beam wing. But the things that fears me most is the finger and webber were faster than us in the middle sector, where DF is more needed, but the positive thing about the theory that both McLarens and specially Lewis having the wet set ups is they also have more ride heights and a lot more and itā€™s not just about DF.

Q: While the weather forecast tomorrow is for rain, have you chosen the set-up of your car only for qualifying or also thinking about 71 laps for tomorrow?

SV: To be honest with you, I think a typical rain set-up doesnā€™t exist any more. The big difference is that you put on different tyres. Car-wise, there isnā€™t much you can do. Generally if itā€™s wet, you put on more downforce if anything but car-wise, from the set-up point of view, itā€™s more or less the same as in the dry.

JB: I think that the set-up weā€™ve taken this weekend is a set-up that helps us in the wet, and itā€™s not been done on purpose, itā€™s just the way it is for us around here. Yeah, as Seb said, thereā€™s not a big difference. You donā€™t really have a massive change to the car for wet conditions but there are small things.

Rain/showers are still forecast for the race at the moment, similar to 2008, on and off, could be very interesting.

McLaren-Honda for 2013? What a joke?

Mercedes engine the best on track see now in Brazil GP!!!! Amazing third sector!!

The question is whether they would be the best under new engine regulations. Honda has great experience in producing turbo engines, Mercedes - has not. Moreover, Honda had the best engines until turbo engines were banned from 1989.

Frage: "Bist du mit deinem Setup auf Regen eingestellt?"
Hamilton: "Ja."

Q: Is your set up towards rain

The Bulls are probably set up for rain too, but this race could potentially be a classic.

JB is lauded for his Canada performance but the truth is the Mclaren was a rocket ship on that particular day in those conditions. JB may have won from the back but consider than LH was way faster than JB in the early parts of that race.

And Whiting, we don't care if a few cars slide off the track, it's the last race of the season for gods sake just let them race. These cars are bound for the scrapyard anyway

Considering that Hungary raceday was unexpectedly wet I'm not sure where you get your 'supposed to' from. :drunk:

Looks like a bone dry race atm . So not great with a wet set up.

If it stays dry it won't matter wich set up McLaren has the RBRs are faster anyway.

Wonder if the Indy Car race control had that opinion back in Vegas.

With the straightline speed the McLarens could overtake in s3/1 then prevent the Bulls using their speed in s2 - and if the Bulls are tougher on their tyres it could be an epic race in the dry, let alone with the prospect of rain hanging over the race.

Oh well... another failed opportunity. What turned out to be a horrible Winter Season, then turned into a pleasant and surprising Spring, then into a frustrating Summer and finally into a disappointing Fall (in the grand scheme of things).

I doubt McLaren will turn it around. RBR sounds like they are on a roll until the next major regs change in 2-3+ years.

Yeah, misunderstood right to the end. I couldn't believe it when they STILL kept putting options on, only to discover - surprise surprise - it was faster on primes.

Thought i'd dig up a quote from another thread and see what you all think about it:

I think both Ferrari and Mclaren are just going through the motions - "we are here to win blah blah blah" Ferrari are still dominating the sports car market and Mclaren are on track to providing sound alternative. Outside of these 2, there are no other teams in F1 competing with them in the sport cars market. They can therefore afford to coming 2nd and 3rd in the championships.

F1 is the exciting car motor sport, loads of followers and loads of "cheap" publicity. They both have exciting drivers (Alonso and LH). I don't think Ferrari are going to sack anyone barring Massa even if they finish 3rd in 2012. I don't think they are going to sell more cars even if they came 1st. Right now, for both teams, F1 is about selling cars...

I think this is a semi-truth really, McLaren and Ferrari do keep blabbering on about how they only exist to win and yet in two years haven't come close to matching Red Bull with their cars. Not that it's as simple as them having to try harder, but I do get the impression that the collective might of all their resources should be closer by now to Red Bull than they are. I don't think they're throwing the kitchen sink at them - and in Martin Whitmarsh and Stefano Domenicali this only supports my view in that they come across a lot more like politicians than someone like Ross Brawn does for example (not that Horner couldn't be compared to them I concede, but he is just a puppet).

The MP4-26 was a step forward from last year, but they're still a long way behind Red Bull IMO and the gap only looks smaller because of these tyres holding Red Bull back so much.

Does anyone really believe that McLaren are suddenly going to turn around and blow everyone's socks off next year? It'd be great if it happened, but I feel 90% sure it won't.

Good bye Mp4-26. You were good car but Rb7 made you look bad. Gearbox problem was not good at all. It reminded me 2007 :( I hope we will be strong from the very first race. We have all the resource, experience to achieve this. Hopefully, this winter will be trouble-free for us.

come on mclaren please produce a rocketship for next year! ferrari seems well on the way to understand what it takes, so please don't disappoint us one more year, also hamilton, please erase this year from your memory and come back like in the rookie years, you lost a little the edge and no compromise mentality, seems you think to much

Did you see Hamilton's final quote - 2012 will be my year! Don't go down that road

Well it's going to be a fond goodbye to the MP4-26, at least being second in both drivers and constructors is better than last year :) Six race wins, and an octupus concept we'll never know what could of been!

Roll on the 27 - and another 27000 posts of us talking about it

Another year another a@@ whooping by the Drinks Company. Now they have the same amount of titles as Mac does in 20 years, two decades! Mac reminds of the Red Sox,big time club with big time players without a formula for success and with the odd title here and then.
To those who know what Formula One means,Mclaren's formulae of late have all been busts! Hoping for a killer 27 in '12.

What can I say abput the car. It was a brave atempt that failed. There were 2 designe elements that were wrong. The first was the EBD concept. Scarb wrote about the outher 5 cm as a possible placment in december, and it was the best solution. I just don't understand why McLaren didn't chose the Kiss meathode. The second is the DRS. The team simply underestimated the effect of the DRS in qualifaying and often the drivers faund themselfs behined slower cars and that enabled RedBull to just drive away. And finaly the team, the team simply can not afford so many mistakes in the races where there wer no mistake the drivers performed briliantly but to often a screw up meant that a driver found himself in the wrong position. What to expect next year,..........................
