Nice video, she's quite a nice lady and great skills in that M5.

However DTM don't think so, DTM isn't looking for a 41 y/o Nordschleife specialist and they've ladies aplenty too.
Maybe when BMW enters in 2012 but they've their other real touring car specialists to consider too, I think DTM is not to be for Sabine but at least she has a great job at the Ring and with BMW.

As to an F1 test for someone like her with no relevant open wheel experience, surely Sauber have more interesting prospects to put in their car.

Absolutely, which is why I stated that it should be for fun! Thanks for the contribution willow, I actually met Sabine about 6 years ago on my first visit to the ring. This was just a nice new video that I thought people might enjoy.

Sauber's budget doesn't come from BMW, in fact they were left with quite a bit of debt. They are simply stuck with the name due to the way F1 franchises work.

It'd be interesting, to a point, to see Sabine drive a real race car, but no more than seeing someone like Richard Hammond. Her PR value is really only going to come from being female, and there are female racing drivers that would attract more media attention than Sabine if given an F1 test.

Sauber's budget does in fact come from BMW 'for the most part' by means of keeping the funds allocated to 'BMW-Sauber' for the initial part of the season by the board of BMW. I would be interested to see your source information to the exact level of 'debt' that Sauber was left with?

Also...what exactly is a 'real' race car in your personal opinion? I guess the cars she used to win the Nurburgring 24 hour race in 1996 and 1997, combined with the third place in 2008, dont count as 'real' race cars eh? Damn...... the race snobbery around here is staggering.

Fact is, she has raced cars, she has won events, therefore she is considerably better as a race driver than Richard Hammond will ever be. But hey... I really could not care less if a bunch of forumers think she does not have the 'merit' to drive an F1 car.... If I had the chance to drive one, I'd drive one....and I hope she gets that chance someday.

If Sabine has raced professionally there's even less reason to give her an F1 demo, as she has not, to date, shown the results/speed to deserve a test; even as a PR exercise. Now if you were talking Danica Patrick I'd agree, if only because of the incredible amount of attention you'd get in the world's largest media market.

We'd all love the chance to drive an F1 car. But in the real world wishing doesn't make it so. F1 teams are far too busy, have far too little testing, and testing is far too expensive (I believe €1,500 per km) to spend time on low impact events. I'm glad you brought up Hammond first, as it's the equivalent level of PR level. Yes Sabine is a far better driver than that, but if we're going to judge her on those merits she falls short in the professional realm and really isn't even in the top 5 of female racers.

Around the Ring...she IS Legend. Who suggested she was faster than the current crop of F1 drivers??? No one here.

However I would place a large wager that if you took her and Danica Patrick to a track they have never seen before and give them the same cars, I think Sabine wins that battle all day long. Hence why I would like to see just what she 'could' do in an F1 car. Not to get a ride in F1, not to prove if she is faster than the current F1 drivers... just a personal interest to see if what sort of time she could set...

and for that matter... I'd like to see her have a test in a WRC car. She seems to have the same qualities as Mouton and certainly has the car control of Michele, just strikes me that she has never been given a decent opportunity to show what she could do.

Go to any racing school and you'll find guys (and girls) who will stick a car around the track faster than you ever thought possible.

Yeah I don't doubt shes pretty handy around nurburgring, but she bloody should be, shes done probably hundreds of thousands of laps of the place.

Lets face it if she hadn't of been on "top gear" 99% of people in the UK wouldn't know who she is.

What "qualifies" someone to take a lap or two in an F1 car?

Stop treating it like the heavens open up, angels fly down with a racing suit and helmet, and the LORD ALMIGHTY decrees someone "qualifies".

I suspect there are a lot of ways to qualify. Like be a good driver, have a lot of money, be famous, have some PR value, know the team owner, pass the rigorous Autosport BB test, and on and on.
