As to an F1 test for someone like her with no relevant open wheel experience, surely Sauber have more interesting prospects to put in their car.

Why ? What exactly this girl did what tons of real racing drivers did without any chance to drive in F1 ?

Absolutely, which is why I stated that it should be for fun! She is hardly the next contender for a race seat, I just thought as she has been a great ambassador for BMW, a run maybe in one of last years BMW/Sauber's would be a real nice touch, and interesting to see what sort of pace she could achieve.

Yeah, that's why they never do things like demonstration runs, or rides in two-seaters, or give tests to people like Loeb and Rossi who aren't committed to F1.F1 cars are for racing, not "fun" or giving the general public joy rides in.

Shes been around for years, so I don't know why you've suddenly discovered her now. Was there a feature in todays Daily Mail?

Maybe because their budget this year has come from BMW?
Besides I was more interested to see her in one of last years fully liveried BMW F1 cars and was just curious as to what time around a track like Barcelona she might achieve. I never expected so many armchair racers to start throwing their toys and their vitriol over a nice video and an interesting suggestion....

Sauber's budget doesn't come from BMW, in fact they were left with quite a bit of debt. They are simply stuck with the name due to the way F1 franchises work.
It'd be interesting, to a point, to see Sabine drive a real race car, but no more than seeing someone like Richard Hammond. Her PR value is really only going to come from being female, and there are female racing drivers that would attract more media attention than Sabine if given an F1 test.
Posted 02 November 2010 - 12:11
a woman can drive a car fairly fast = a legend aparently.Legend?

badoer , gene , diniz etc would probably school her
Posted 02 November 2010 - 12:44
Eh? BMW don't give them anything. No engines, no funding, nothing. Not even a Honda-style divorce settlement.
If Sabine has raced professionally there's even less reason to give her an F1 demo, as she has not, to date, shown the results/speed to deserve a test; even as a PR exercise. Now if you were talking Danica Patrick I'd agree, if only because of the incredible amount of attention you'd get in the world's largest media market.
We'd all love the chance to drive an F1 car. But in the real world wishing doesn't make it so. F1 teams are far too busy, have far too little testing, and testing is far too expensive (I believe €1,500 per km) to spend time on low impact events. I'm glad you brought up Hammond first, as it's the equivalent level of PR level. Yes Sabine is a far better driver than that, but if we're going to judge her on those merits she falls short in the professional realm and really isn't even in the top 5 of female racers.
Posted 02 November 2010 - 12:53
OK so you do not produce any source information for your last claim that Sauber was left in considerable debt by BMW. OK..no problem.
I am quite well aware of the Ferrari lump in the rear of their car and again, if you can prove via source that BMW did not provide any funding to Peter Sauber, then you go right ahead. As the chellenger to a point, you generally have to base your objection on fact.
As to your assessment of her racing ability... who are the top 5 female racers in your opinion? Legge? Patrick? Moore? who? Because unless you are able to establish a race between them, then all you have is your 'opinion' and there are as many of those on these boards as there are ar$eholes.
What you fail to realise is the fact that there are literally thousands and thousands of professional and amateur drivers out there, some of which might, just might be even more talented than the likes of Alonso, Hamilton, et al.... unfortunately many of them have never had the management and financial resources to 'get the results' you speak of, to make a path up the ladder, to deserve a test.
so for the final time for the hard of HEARING........
I do not propose she takes the valuable time of an F1 team...eating their precious testing budget.... but if there were the opportunity to do a 'Richard Hammond' style TV piece with an ex-F1 car as I suggested (which has already been done with Comtec Racing, so clearly the Renault team did not make such a song and dance about it as you are, and )...then it would be fun to watch.
Nothing more..nothing less...

pfft if she looked like susan boyle noone would even carIf you followed her at the Ring and see what she does with a car there....yeah you would consider using the word 'Legend'. Also...go for a taxi ride with her and then revisit your thought as to her 'fairly fast' skills...
Around the Ring...she IS Legend. Who suggested she was faster than the current crop of F1 drivers??? No one here.
However I would place a large wager that if you took her and Danica Patrick to a track they have never seen before and give them the same cars, I think Sabine wins that battle all day long. Hence why I would like to see just what she 'could' do in an F1 car. Not to get a ride in F1, not to prove if she is faster than the current F1 drivers... just a personal interest to see if what sort of time she could set...
and for that matter... I'd like to see her have a test in a WRC car. She seems to have the same qualities as Mouton and certainly has the car control of Michele, just strikes me that she has never been given a decent opportunity to show what she could do.
Is it a bit late for her now to do anything serious...yes it is... is she still a bloody quick driver...yes she is... that is all.

1: That door swings both ways cowboy. Other than the name, which they were forced to keep due to FOM contracts rather than an association with BMW, can you demonstrate any funding, sponsorship, or other subsidy coming from BMW AG?
2: Well without a race theres equally no reason to give Sabine the default No1 plate.
3: Since we're doing this as a PR thing, we have to go in terms of impact. So Danica, de Silvestro, Stoddart(looks will count), there's a few gals in NASCAR I can't remember, etc. Hell, even Sarah Fisher got a McLaren demo because she's so well liked.
4: I understand this issue probably even better than you. So if we were going to go out and pick some plucky and lucky racer and give them the chance of a lifetime, I can't say Sabine would be on my shortlist of 10. I know everyone loves the Nurburgring but she's a track specialist.
5: You know that Richard Hammond piece would have been seen by 6-8million TV viewers? That's pretty good PR. Renault F1 have gotten good mileage out of that show when you recall Kovalainen's lap.
6: You seem to be taking people disagreeing with you kind of personally.
So you go from 'Low Impact events' to ... '6-8 million Tv Viewers..thats pretty good PR'... Contradict yourself much?F1 teams are far too busy, have far too little testing, and testing is far too expensive (I believe €1,500 per km) to spend time on low impact events

Amazing how you can post something nice and non-controversial and there will still be people who want to poopoo it.
She doesn't deserve it. It's only because she is pretty. blah blah blah. <yawn>
Have them fill out this form.

1: I will gladly produce my evidence to counter your evidence that they have not received funding. Remember, you challenged my view, therefore the onus is on you to prove that point otherwise it is merely another Ross Stonefeld opinion... Oh by the way... they actually kept the name as they thought they had to, to have any chance of securing the TV rights money and championship money from the previous year, which they did not get in the end, but by which time they had already registered on the F1 entry list for 2010 and would require dispensation from all the other teams to change, so they decided to keep it the name.
2: Who gave her the No. 1 plate? Please produce where I have said she is the best female driver in the world? I simply called her a driving goddess... which in my eye...she is...
Because otherwise there's no logic behind it. Might as well give Tony Blair a test.3: Why exactly do we 'have to go in terms of impact'...according to who?...you? Feck it.. if I had the cash...I'd give her the chance in a private test, closed doors...
4: Really?...do you really know it better than I? You 100% about that...or yet again just another Stonefeld dismissive statement that you often slap on people.
5: LOLOLOL what a magical U-Turn. So having gone from So you go from 'Low Impact events' to ... '6-8 million Tv Viewers..thats pretty good PR'... Contradict yourself much?
6: Absolutely nothing personal in this at all. I just like calling people like you out for making utter garbage 'matter of fact points' when in reality they are merely your own personal opinion. The hilarious thing....is how you can go into so much detail about the merits of whether Sabine deserves a run in an F1 car.... when what you could have simply said was 'Yeah that would be kinda fun to see how she does...' But NO... the little 'arguement troll/I am goig to tell you why I think your view is idiotic' gene kicks in... so no..far from personal... and again...your opinion is backed up as per usual with ZERO evidence.. so just for snits and giggles, I thought I would question each of your 'satements of fact'..... for fun!
Hope that clarifies things for you

And that is probably where you should have left it because all that other stuff about "get her to DTM", "she'd beat Danica all day long" and "she has the car control of Michelle Mouton" is just way over the top.It was simply a nice video, about a nice talented lady...
Posted 02 November 2010 - 13:50
There are hundreds of people who can drive a passenger car quickly around circuits. Sabine is one of them.
Go to any racing school and you'll find guys (and girls) who will stick a car around the track faster than you ever thought possible.
Yeah I don't doubt shes pretty handy around nurburgring, but she bloody should be, shes done probably hundreds of thousands of laps of the place.
Lets face it if she hadn't of been on "top gear" 99% of people in the UK wouldn't know who she is.
I still don't see how she qualifies for a F1 test in any way.
Posted 02 November 2010 - 13:54
1:Produce your evidence then. Although you've just said they kept the BMW name to keep their franchise income, which they didnt get anyways. So in other words, the BMW name has brought them exactly nothing? Or would you like to rephrase that?
2:And thats fine. That's your personal view which is fine. But you need to have a more compelling argument why an exception should be made for her. If you wanted to start a "Who would you like to see test an F1 car" thread and she was a candidate, great. But to make a Sabine specific case will need better arguments.
3:Because otherwise there's no logic behind it. Might as well give Tony Blair a test.
4:Uhm, you're the one going on about how you know better than all the rest of us. We're just a bunch of keyboard warriors, blah blah.
5:Richard Hammond 'moves the needle' in PR terms more than Sabine. You don't have to like it, but that's the way it is. I reckon most people in the UK who know who she is, know her from Top Gear apperances. Funny that.
6:Are you talking to me or the mirror? Physician, heal thyself.
So unless you are a complete and utter nut job, the only person stating their authority to knowing more about this subject than anyone else...was you???? LOLOLOLOLI understand this issue probably even better than you.
