Here is the place to discuss all things British Touring Cars for 2011! Is the series what it used to be? Have pay drivers taken something a little special out of the championship? Will Jason Plato defend his crown? Who knows.

Ford has released pictures however, of its new Focus to be used in next years BTCC:

Interesting article and more pictures here: http://carscoop.blog...s-race-car.html

The LA Car Show would seem a strange place to launch a new car competing in the BTCC!

Well that's the car Ford is planning on racing in a variety of championships across the globe, the BTCC is just the start.

I'm quite interested in the new cars that are appearing, new shiny things always keep me fascinated in series that I don't always follow so closely :)

That ain't a BTCC-spec aero package so I'm sure it's just the base car that other championships will run too.

Any more on Techspeed ?

I heard a rumour they were going for ex works civics and retaining Neil Brown engines, but with BTC spec cars given a lease of life will they keep the tegs and change cars for 2012 ?
Hope O'Neill can put another season together, I think he could be a championship contender in a civic.

New section looks good, nice traditional racing circuit corners... no Tilke-aping for Snetterton!

And the last corner's been reprofiled too, looks very good to my eyes. Cant wait for BTCC to start again, a great championship.

I think there are things going on in the background but not sure if it will be civics though.

Hope O'Neil gets a drive again shame the trusty Integra might have to go served them well with it been good on it's tyres etc it gave them a bit of an advantage over some of their rivals.

I do like the look of it. I like the last corner in particular. I always found that chicane very awkward when playing the ToCA racing games.

I think they have done a very nice job.... AND..as has been discussed in other threads... the circuit designer clearly understands the importance of a challenging medium/fast corner to a straight to offer opportunity for overtaking at the end of the straight. Something the previous chicane did not permit and is the exact problem in Abu-Dhabi with the 'lets all stop' chicane prior to the hairpin.

I am looking forward to seeing the end of lap 1 of this race, as I believe there could be some monumental side by side moments coming into turn 1 jockying for position for the hairpin at 2, having previously had a much faster chicane onto the start finish straight to set it all off....

It will certainly make Snett a lot more entertaining for the drivers and it seems they have created some good viewing areas for the fans to be able to see quite a bit of the action...

Overall....

Seem to be a lot of BTCC announcements on Autosport recently. Anyone done a 2011 car count yet?

I refuse to believe Arena are giving Andy bloody Neate a focus instead of Onslow-cole. I know the BTCC can only finance itself through pay drivers (with three exceptions?) but seriously come on!! How much money has Neate got, 10mil? He was utterly dire last year.

Good to see Forster and Depper wont be returning either. A new level of 'out of prescribed depth'.

As expected the new BTCC Focus looks a little different from the first images and hopefully more pics soon in the next few days from Geneva.

If that photo is meant to represent a race car I hope it never ends up in the gravel trap - that towing eye attached to the radiator grill looks a tad ineffective.

Awesome lap. Going to be a fun start tomorrow, Neal with Plato behind and then the young guns Jordan and Nash on the other side. Anyone know what happened to Pinkney? Wanted to see the A4 have a trott around.

So how many types of cars are running now? You've got full S2000 cars, S2000 shells with a NGTC engine (1.6L petrol turbo?) and full NGTC cars. Anything else?

You can bet your life on some old past-it businessman/cash strapped single seat dropout to show up with a BTC spec Integra or civic (isnt there one?) Though George has managed to pay his way into a Cruze this year, and Pinkneys got an Audi. Shame, a whole new car deserves a decent driver. No idea why it isnt 4WD though.

And very suprised Neate got that close to Chilton. He must be half decent in a FWD drive car, He was utterly hopeless in the beemer.

have to admit, part of me was happy to see Neal punted off on the first lap, taste of his own medicine. although Macdowell was ridiculously aggressive for the 1st lap

overall, a decent opening race, wasnt expecting Plato to win so early, and was kinda hoping Nash could of caught him and made the last lap decent. and nice bit of rallycrossing from Chilton :rotfl:

They should let the beemers have their normal first gears back. Its the only thing that would make them competitive. Ageing a bit now.

Anyone else praying for some alfa's next year? :D

Yeah and Matt Neal hasn't been involved in any of it!

Great results for Collard, Onslow-Cole in that Golf and Jordan, of course.

im actually stunned.

but for some reason, Sheddon seems to have taken over from neal with "needlessly punting someone off the track" he was doing it alot in brands and hes been doing it today. hard to judge if the plato accident was totally Sheddons fault or if he was just squeezed but i could tell Plato was gonna roll from the moment he left the track

was quite annoying hearing the commentators thinking that it was the Audi that caused the accident when it was clear that it wasnt

Maybe Matt Neal is finally maturing and not getting in the bumping and grinding so much? It's only taken him 20 odd years!

Yeah, in the first few races of this season, Sheddon does seem a bit 'edgier' when behind someone. I mean he's always been a bit aggressive, but he looks more likely to put his nose in when he shouldn't this year. Maybe he will calm down a bit as the year goes on though.

To be honest, i thought it was Austin at first too because he was parked nearby and started around Plato. It became obvious in the replays that it was Sheddon involved though.

Shedden's trying to do too much on one lap trying to come through the field from the back because of crashes or penalties that he has had or been given.

Matt Neal will never change!

I must get over to a BTCC event soon. Second favourite racing series after f1.

Missed the 1st race, 2nd and especially the third were great entertainment, which is essentially what the BTCC is all about. Shame for TOC though. I just love that Plato was racing around with his car in that shape aesthetically. Fantastic viewing as always! :)
