I just suck at Barcelona and the old Hockenheim.

Never finished a race at the latter.

I loved old Hockenheim. Wings down and gears long. Very fast but turns like freight train on couple chicanes. :D

Tracks I dislike:

Real tracks

Shanghai Circuit - Don't like the long, mid-speed corners. Unless your lines are perfect at the turn after the front straight and the one before the back straight, don't expect to have consistent throttle use. High-downforce setups will help you make the corners but will cost you lap time.

Sebring International Raceway - Unappealing layout with an annoying final corner--again one of those long, mid-speed sweepers I can't stand. Practice makes perfect here.

Silverstone (new layout) - The new complex is just... wrong. Another one of those trade-offs where if you can't manage the corners well, you'll compromise your speed by modifying your setup to help you take them.

Fantasy tracks

Lightning: Half Pipe (F-Zero GX) - Half-pipe tracks have a habit of punishing people who don't have good lines--or non-aggresive racers. Go slow if necessary, and beat the tar out of anyone who dares to come near you for fear that they'll do it first if you don't.

Sherbet Land (Mario Kart Wii) - No traction, sharp corners, and penguins that skid across the road at random intervals. I don't think I need to say anything else. If you're on anything other than a lightweight bike or an off-roader here, you're toast.

New York Circuit (Forza Motorsport) - Two long straights, each dead-ending into more or less identical sharp corners. Boring, or so I thought until they added those $#&*ing chicanes. Thanks, Turn 10.

Tracks I dislike and am terrible at:

Real tracks

Catalunya (any layout) - If I ever meet the person who designed this track... I'd congratulate them on building what must be one of the most frustrating layouts I think I've ever seen. The whole dang track is just one mid-speed sweeper after another, with those awful kerbs and that blasted chicane at the end. A nightmare unlike any other from start to finish.

Interlagos - Maybe I dislike this one because I'm terrible at it and not because I don't like its layout. It's got a good feel, but I've just never had fun on this track for some reason.

Motegi (Oval layout) - Something about non-symmetrical ovals is just irritating. Couple this with opponents that seem to be moving faster than you through pretty much every part of the track, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Fantasy tracks

Waluigi Stadium (Mario Kart Wii) - For the love of all things that aren't the Flame Runner or Mach Bike--I'm begging you to not pick this track. If you're not on either of those bikes in a fast lobby, you're basically *drill noise*'d from the first corner onwards.

King Cobra Test Track (Forza Motorsport) - Driving this track is reminiscent of driving through a crowded city. It's "stop-start-stop" constantly for about four minutes. Not hard to see why this one's annoying.

Mute City: Serial Gaps - I just... ugh. I can't really explain this one to people who haven't played F-Zero. It's like Catalunya, only upside-down and half the width with no guardrails, landmines on every straight section (I am being completely serious), and jumps conveniently located in the braking zone of every corner (all of them being 90-degree corners) so you're launched over the end of the track with no chance to stop unless you're turning well before the braking zone--this also means that you can't navigate the track slowly, either, because then you won't have enough speed to make the jumps. This is the only track I've ever played that could legitimately compete with Catalunya for the title of "racer's worst nightmare".

Good list.

I choose a hire driver whenever New York comes up in the calendar.

i hate Tsukuba. it is so dull imo. it is just three hairpins, then straights with one moderately high speed turn. i hate it, and the fact that i have to do more races on that rather than other better tracks, makes me hate it even more.

Tsukuba is actually one of my favourite tracks on the game. :p On any races you have to do here, select a car with a high handling/braking stat that fits the criteria for the event you're doing, and purchase as many handling upgrades as possible. Top speed is pretty much pointless here due to a lack of straights--it's acceleration and handling that will win you races, especially against the CPU.

I don't go into any events in career mode on Forza unless I have the best car anyway, so winning is far easier for me. :p

i prefer to buy new cars, than do up them. maybe thats why, but i just find it so monotonous.

all my ferraris are stock, so Racing mods for the Vette, i think. thanks for the help!

I like Tsukuba as well, it's great for smaller sportscars. Also, if you're a bit of a drifting noob like me, it's quite a good place to practice low-speed drifts (with enough grass not to hit the wall when I inevitably spin!)...

In GT5 I'm actually not that great at La Sarthe... something about the bumps and braking I can never get the hang of, even with hours of setup changes etc. The last section from Arnage onwards I like, but the first two-thirds aren't great for me (and that's even with the Mulsanne to break it up!!).

Daytona Road Course is another that I've not quite got the hang of, but I haven't really driven on it much, so whenever I do I'm a bit rusty, especially with braking for that deceptive first turn...

It depends really... I use a keyboard so tracks with a lot of twists tend to be a tad harder (e.g: Suzuka)
Istanbul Park, Shanghai and Valencia are tracks where I underperform most.

Istanbul is one of my favourite tracks on F1 2010. Assuming you're playing F1 2010, set the car up here as you would for Barcelona--lots of ballast to the front, large differences between front and rear dampers and roll-bars (low front settings and high rear settings), and low ride height and downforce. Many tracks that seem hard will become much easier to drive with the right setup.

If you're having trouble getting the corners right, the two to watch out for are Turn 8 and the left-hander at the top of the hill near the start of the lap. These two corners, along with Turn 7, are the ones where you'll make up the most time on a qualifying lap/race. Turn 8 is easy if you apex it properly--stay to the far right of the road and give maximum steering input until just before the final apex. Let off for just a bit, then continue steering hard to the left, and you should be able to take it flat out.

For the corner at the top of the hill, hit the brakes just before the apex of the hill and turn hard to the left, and you should make it most times. :p Be sure to adjust your braking points and apexes accordingly for fuel-load/tyre wear differences--it'll save you some hassle in the long run.

I like to drive with setups that don't require sensitive steering input, so we probably have similar driving styles if you're on a keyboard, lol. I can give you my exact setup for Istanbul if you want--let me know and I'll copy it here next time I get on F1 2010.
