Inspired by that other thread about sucking at various tracks in various sims, this one is self explanatory. At which tracks do you always feel extra confident going into races against AI/online opponents? For me, it's the Nordsheliefe, Brands Hatch, and Valencia (not the street track, the permanent circuit used for WTCC/LMS). I'm not the quickest at the Nord, but I'm up there and in online races the chance of others screwing up is so high that lapping at 8/10ths is quick enough to be in the top 5 and eventually 1st after everyone crashes around me. I just love Brands in any cars and I always seem to gain time on other drivers online going into Hawthorn and Westfield, and the same for Turn 1 at Valencia, everyone seems to go into that turn a little too slow and not use enough track on the exit.

Anyway, gloat away!

Hungaroring.
I am about 1 second quicker (relative to my competitors) than I am at any other track and about 1.5 seconds quicker than I am at the places I mentioned in the "I suck at" thread.

I am sure it is not on the top of their agenda but I would like iRacing to do the Hungaroring. The Star Mazda would be great to race there (the FW31 too of course).

Zandvoort. No matter what sim or incarnation of the track, be it GPL, rFactor or IRacing - it just suits me. Don't know why, but I love this track. If I manage to win a race (seldom enough), it's probably Zandy.

I thought my best track on F12010 was either Bahrain, because relative to the AI, that is my most competitive track, easily.

But then I spent a couple of weeks posting my best laptime on each circuit in TT and and checking out my position on the online leaderboard. And quite unexpectedly, it turns out that I am BY FAR best at China, relative to human opposition. There I am about 300th in the world whereas my average is about 700th and Bahrain 500th

I reckon I have that first long turn and the chicane/banked exit to the back straight and the final turn all totally licked!

The same here. Which suits me just fine, because as a toddler I lived in Zandvoort, not far from the track. And my father had a business there so I know the place quite well... from outside the gate, alas, not on the track itself.

By the way: I mean the old GP track. NOT the new one.

Road Atlanta. The first sector, up the hill then down the hill, I can sometimes pull off things that even I'm surprised by! I joined a casual but competitive racing league from another forum, and I was one and a half seconds clear of the second best player per lap.

Unfortunately it just makes me realise how average I am at most tracks - and how terrible I am at some of them!

Sepang. Between the crazy long right hander and the last corner I make up a lot of time vs AI, and my TT rank online there is much better than in other tracks.

I've done a 1.35.2 (off the top of my head). It's all about having faith that the car will stick over those slippy kerbs and trying to line your car up to go over them with least fuss...

Me too. And along with Suzuka its one of the best track to kickass at, proper drivers track. None of this boring start stop point and squirt BS. High commitment, large elev change.

My favourites are Suzuka, Istanbul, Monaco and Montreal. Pretty handy around Hockenheim and Valencia.

Really bad at Albert Park, Silverstone, Marina Bay, Malaysia and Catalunya.

I'm quite proud of my ability to get round Rouen in GPL in a time which is well in the negative. Scary circuit that, the men who did it for real must've been tired of life.

A proper lap around rouen in GPL is an amazing feeling... unfortunately, i usually ended up binning the car after burning up the rear tyers sliding too much. GPLrank (long time since i used that service) shows that i did a 1:55.153 at one time around rouen in the lotus, but i guess i will struggle to repeat that now :)

Watkins glen in GPL really was "my track" during my many years of gpl. I could usually put in pretty fast laps whole race through, and my PB ended up 1:04.042, using a joystick, and i could get high 04s in race conditions (race pb was 1.04.4). Probably the track i have the most wins on in my GPL history...

I also played GPL with a joystick back when I didn't have a wheel/desk space, made for an extra challenge to be unable to brake and apply gas at the same time as you often find necessary with pedals. That's a very quick Watkins time, I just checked GPLRank for the first time in 4 years and my best there was in the eagle at 1:05.0. I remember being most satisfied with my lap of Monza where after trying for a very, very long time I finally managed to get under 1:28 with a 1:27.95. Talk about skin of my teeth... Great game, wish someone would redo that era with all the graphics bells and whistles a game like GT5 or F12010 have.

Dan333SP:

Did a 1:27.751 at monza, although in the lotus, as i allways loved the handling it had. Never got around to drive GPL with a proper wheel, although, i have recently reinstalled it and tried a few laps with my wheel setup... it was hard to stay on the road :p When i stopped driving GPL i was at -40.313, all PBs with the lotus :)

I used to be pretty quick at the Hungaroring on F1 2002 for the Gamecube. My best ever lap was a 0:59.3 or so in the Ferrari.

In recent games, I feel more confident on Maple Valley (Forza 3), Bahrain (F1 2010), Monaco (F1 2010), Sedona Raceway (Forza 3), Spa (F1 2010), and Rainbow Road (Mario Kart Wii :p). I hate Monaco on any game except for F1 2010; for some reason it's a lot of fun for me on that game.

Ah, thank you for the Mario Kart reminder! I played the N64 version for hours and hours against my friends, I was definitely best at the Rainbow Road and Koopa Beach tracks because I could always nail the shortcuts without mushrooms :)

Simply put, any track I have properly memorised I do well at in any game. So all the classics I know I can do whatever im playing. Spa, Monaco, suzuka. Not because Im good, but because I know what is coming

(One exception. Silverstone, any version, I always always suck)

Haha, I loved that game. My favourite tracks were in the space world.

Reading your post also makes me realize I've forgotten one track that I love to race on, though it's not strictly from a racing sim: Strangled Shrine from Diddy Kong Racing DS. I used to have the airplane world record there with a 1:17.28. The current best time is 1:17.24 I believe, though the race timer for the track is glitched--my three laps on the WR run gave me a total time of 1:15.9 (25.3 x 3) or so, but the game said my total time was a 1:17.28. Improving an extra tenth of a second on the total time requires taking about a half-second or more overall off of the three lap times. :drunk:

For whatever reason,I'm untouchable at Silverstone,Monaco,Spa,and Suzuka. High speed, flowing curves are just my thing; plus if the track calls for someone with excellent car control & on-the-edge,tail-happy,rally-style driving then I'm your man. (which is why good at Monaco)

I'm also terrible at Sepang, however, but I blame it on the lack of grip.

 ;)

Seriously, though,it's irritating not being able to find a proper line or rhythm through the double right handers and the blind right before the back straight at this track.

My guess is ... you're car is setup with too much understeer. I've found that since I set up the cars so it slides in the slow corner with the backend (much more than I would prefer by taste) fast double combinations like this section on Sepang or Japan or Turkey work much better. Before I would just understeer out of it.

Other tip: keep a steady throttle instead of accelerating. Start gearing down at the moment you see the kerbs on the right hand sight. Don't go too early to the apex of the slow corner. That used to screw me up, big time.

I'm respectable at Watkins Glen, Okayama and Summit. I'm ok under braking but suffer badly in high speed corners and blind corner entries.

For reasons Ive never understood, I seem to do well at Silverstone's old GP layout in pretty much whatever game Im thrown with. Road Atlanta and Valencia RT come fairly close, though thats mainly thanks to practice.

Watkins Glen was always my best track in GPL, remember qualifying on pole in the Ferrari in Div 1 of UKGPL champs one year only to be taken out by a pesky lotus 49 first time into the loop. Fought back from last to 6th or so before disconnecting near end of race. Oh the frustration!
