I've just stumbled across a series of 3 programmes being shown today on the Yesterday Freeview channel called Forgotten Pilots which is about the Air Transport Auxilary pilots who delivered aircraft in WW2. One of the featured pilots is the late John Jordan who raced a GT40 in the late 60's and a McLaren M8B in club racing in the 70's. He also ran Tony Trimmer in the Aurora Series with a F5000 Lola and what he purchased from the remains of BRM.

He was known for his flying displays after meetings at Silverstone and often got into trouble with the authorities. He lost his pilots licence for flying under a bridge - He was aged 78 at the time!

I've missed most of the programmes but hopefully they will be shown again soon.

Also featured was the late Diana Barnato-Walker. I know of two pre-war racers who were killed flying with the ATA - Luis Fontes and Wal Handley. Amy Johnson also lost her life on an ATA flight although her rallying exploits are much less well-known than her flying achievements.
