I think the Depailler/Tyrrell shot could be from the Alain Boisnard/'Lap of the Gods' filming project. There was also 'overhead' footage aboard the P34 at Monaco taken from that kind of camera mounting. For me, the sequences showing Patrick at Montreal and Long Beach are the highlights of those films.

001.jpgAnother interpretation of getting a ride, Glen Dix  [yeah, the same bloke] doing a victory lap with Bill Wigzell in Suddenly.

This pic I feel was final night of Rowley Pk in 1979 but was a regular occurence early 70s when Bill won more than his fair share of feature races

You're right...

I've been here over ten minutes waiting for the pic to open and it doesn't.

Can we have a different link or something?

It's an M14A (chassis 1), not an M7A. From the start of the race Gethin had a problem with sticking throttle slides. He made a pit stop to try to fix things, which was obviously unsuccessful as he stopped out on the circuit shortly afterwards. I'm wondering if the mechanic leaning over the rear wing is actually operating the throttle by hand to get the car back to the pits after the race.

From that wondrous film, Prost qualifying in South Africa in the Renault -- replete with single-to-gear downshifts -- was poetry.

I've forgotten that bit… and I lent my copies of those films - to someone who has now emigrated - and never got them back!

I'm now fairly convinced this photo was taken at Interlagos. Ferrari only used that particular design of front cockpit/air intake in the first two GPs of 1977 (Argentina and Brazil). Jeff Hutchinson in his Autosport Brazilian GP report noted that Fittipaldi stopped out on the circuit with electrical problems several times during practice, and the background to the photo looks to me far more like Interlagos than Buenos Aires.

Agree that this is Interlagos 1977.

If I remember correctly Ferrari offered this car (Niki's) to Emerson after the Nurburgring in 1976. I guess this is about as close as Niki ever let him get to the cockpit...

Tall armco may be a clue - I am not looking to check - but I do wonder how quickly they are travelling?   Yikes!

Is there anyone in the passengers seat?  That is a four passenger car.

I feel that was the year he took then PM Malcom Fraser for a lap of Sandown,, in the front passenger seat.

Monaco '75?

Plenty of reason for celebration in the team there, Lauda's first win of the year, the first Ferrari win at Monaco in twenty years...

At the end of that clip was Will Hagon saying the street circuits may be ok but pernemant facilities are an essential. With that I agree 100%

1968 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch. After his tremendous drive through the field into second place (having been delayed at the start) Pedro Rodriguez stopped on the slowing-down lap, his BRM P133 having run dry of fuel. Brian Redman chauffeurred him back to the pits aboard his Cooper T86B-BRM V12.

I reckon it's a Firestone jacket.

But from whom or whence did he obtain it was what I was wondering. I assume he was getting a lift because he had stopped out in the track?

I'm assuming the photo was taken on the slowing-down lap after the race, as Clark appears to be waving to the crowd to acknowledge his victory. Hill retired on lap 43 out of 60 with a seized fuel metering unit, so would have had 17 laps to beg, borrow or steal the jacket.

Derek Bell in the Wheatcroft Racing Brabham BT26, during practice for the 1970 Belgian GP. According to Paddy McNally's report in Autosport Stewart had been stranded on the Masta straight after the engine blew in his March 701 T-car. A helpful marshal volunteered to take Jackie back to the pits, but after they'd gone some distance the marshal announced that he didn't know the way! Jackie made his way back to the side of the track, where he was picked up by Derek.
