Aussie driver Gary Waldon, launched his racing career at Village Grand Prix. Being a frequent participant there, and also a pretty handy steerer as well, he won some competition there, the prize for which was a TR7 (perhaps ex the Pro Am TR7 series). He went on to race the car extensively and led to later drives in a variety of cars, with his final I think culminating in a career-ending big-one in his Viper.Just found these shots of myself (bearded ) and my Brother at the Blacktown track back on the 4th April 1984.The lap board reads Male 39.84 sec Female 40.86 sec.
I recorded a 43.40 sec and Greg 44.30 sec and back in 1981 I did 41.60 sec. track length 800 meters and 24 corners. Great Fun.

I can't recall times, but I do remember that no one could get within coo-ee of the record lap time because of the state the cars were in. Generally one car would be the best of the bunch but even then it may have worn out tyres or bad wheel alignment to prevent getting close to the record. Still it was about having fun, and it certainly was and there were no costs involved other than your lap fees.

Its a pity you don't remember the times you did ,however as you say it sure was fun. I have to try and find out what happened to the cars.
41.25 time registered on that day in 1980.

The middle one looks like the "Sports Motors, Manchester" BT28 (F3, 1969). It tested with a wing like that, but I don't believe it raced like that. Its regular driver was Tim Schenken, whom I presume is in the cockpit here. As for "where"...? I remember seeing a pic of this (and the same car in a "bi-plane" configuration) accompanying an item in "Motor Racing" (the old BRSCC mag) - it may have mentioned where they used this wing. I have the mag at home - I can check it out later.

Who - Were- What - When.
Presumably Australia judging by the Ansett sponsorship, but I know nothing about it. I am just bemused by the tyre wall in the back ground. I would not want to hit that as I doubt there was any give at all in dumper tyres of that sort..

That was my first thoughts on the tyre wall and yes Australian car.

Not sure of the geography of many Oz tracks, but tyre wall may be to deter drivers from going down steep drop behind it or hitting a tree.
Same car, or very close relative, at Pukekohe NZ January 1972, with driver/constructor apparently tyre-kicking left rear. Air intake presumably removed for safe transit and wings redesigned some time during 1972.
Driver not sure ; Circuit not sure - probably somewhere west of Sydney!

Now that is a REAL tyre wall. I doubt that one would grab. And actually it probably would considerably cushion the impact. I still have no wish to test it though!
Is it in NZ? By the helmet it may well be Larry. In an Elfin ofcourse.

Definitely not in NZ. Elfins only ran in Tasman Series rounds. Levin Wigram and Teretonga were/are dead flat, and it isn't Pukekohe. Was there some obscure corner of Warwick Farm or Sandown where there were trees with a dip behind, or maybe at what was then called Wanneroo?

Seems to be a lot of scrub in the background. Does not look like any Aussie track. Unless it is a hillclimb? Did Elfin 5000s run at hillclimbs. Besides Stan Keen. And his was not an Ansett team car
If that other pic in the pits with Garrie is Puke their is trees and seemingly hills in the background there too.

The F 5000 Elfin is at a Hill climb track, some were in Victoria during the state championships first 3rounds 1990.

Ok the driver is a young 16 year old Bryan Sala he won the Victorian Hillclimb Championship in the first 3 of a 5 race series back in 1990 .
Driving his father Elfin F5000.Then CAMS stopped him from driving the Elfin because he was considered to young to handle such a car.
and he finished the series in a Lotus Cortina.......
So the photo has to be at one of those tracks, still trying to work out on the net.
