Hi, many of you are probably familiar with Daniele Amaduzzi. He was a long time member of FOPA and died of lung cancer about 10 years ago. His family has been trying to sell the archive to other agencys but have had no success. So Simone, his son, and I have come up with a plan to sell it: ebay, one picture at a time!!!
here is the link: http://shop.ebay.it/...amaduzzi/m.html

The reason I am involved is because Daniele was a good friend of mine .

and Thanks for looking

Sad to hear the news that Daniele is not with us anymore, i have a couple of his photo books and always liked his works. Just wonder, these are slides that you're selling (not an actual photo), for normal people, do we need a special equipment in order to see these pictures?

Do you have any pictures from the 1985 F1 season that is not already published in Daniele's 1985 photo book?

First of all: I am not selling them its Danieles son who is selling them.
These are the original slides and they come with the copyright. That means you can make as many photos as you like, you can publish them or anything you want. All F1 photographers in that period archived their photos that way. Slides or dias can be viewed just by looking at them but it is much like looking at a negative just a bit better. There are scanners available so you can upload them to your computer or print photos from them. Of course Photo labs can also print Photos from them.
There are many photos from the 1985 season that are in the archive but not in the book. The archive spans from about 1975 to 2000 and consists of about 500'000 slides.
Like I said this is a unique chance to buy amazing "photos", with reproduction rights, for the price of a good quality print.

Hi all Simone has just put a very interesting selection of slides on ebay. Some Stewart, Galli, G.Hill, Rodriguez, Regga and Enzo Ferrari.

I would think it is pretty rare that one is given the chance to buy original slides from that time period.

It saddens me to see those slides so seriously undervalued.

I know what you mean

but hopefully this is just a temporary thing and once more people realising this , things will pick up.

They are truly magnificent and how many times in our lives do we get a chance like this? If we are really lucky maybe once....

Marc you are a seasoned photographer, in your honest opinion what do you think they should bring in your opinion?
What would normally a publication fee for such photographs be?
Thanks for your info.

In the recent past I have been paid more for one-time publication rights than what is being asked for those originals, without giving up the original. The fee depends on the publication.

In the past I have been paid hundreds and even thousands for one-time usage. Once again without giving up the original.

The smallest print I sell is 8"x10" and I charge more than what is being asked for those originals. Those originals are significant historically and should be valued as such. It's hard to put a specific value on them but it should be a lot more than what is being asked.

what I cant believe is that so many of us are willing to buy photographs at a price similar to this but very few people seem to be interested in the original slides

this is actually something you can collect and make money from it. :D

I have made about 90% of my living selling publishing rights, typically what are called "one-time rights," meaning rights for one advertisement or other publication. My rates tend to run from a minimum of $100 for say a postcard, and many times I've been paid $2,000 for Unlimited Rights to a corporation for one-year usage.

Almost all of my sales involve nature photographs, and while one would think that's similar to racing work, it isn't for a variety of reasons. I am actually entertaining doing what you are, but selling my entire file to a single entity.

I believe you may have a tough time making real money vs. time put in, doing it in this manner — and especially at those rates. Those images are IRREPLACEABLE!

I think what I'd recommend is either:
1) Selling the work in groups, like "Formula One," or "Formula One 1980s," or similar.
2) Finding a buyer willing to buy the entire collection. I recently thought I had a buyer quoting $5-25 per image for my entire file. I was pleased, but found out later they meant 5-25 cents, which is far less than my film expenses alone.
3) It may be worth getting a quote from one of the general agencies, such as Getty. I have no idea what they pay, but your venture is worth much legwork in seeking a buyer that you can muster a real fee out of.
4) I agree with Marc above, offering a great image and all rights for $25 is sadly undervalued. What may well happen is you have publishers with reasonable budgets buying just a handful of the very best shots for 10% of page-rate fees, and you're left with only the secondary images for just a few hundred dollars. You may or may not know what's a secondary image in the market, and that will further the problems of undervalued fees.
5) Unless you're desperate for funds, I might await a better economy. The "haves" take advantage of the "have-nots" in disgusting ways during a bad economy, IMO.
6) Understand that timing is everything, per #5 above, but that also we're in an era that perceives many things in the art world as a cheap commodity. I blame technology for all of that trend.... and while it well could reverse once the world realizes that poor/cheap work doesn't sell as well as truly good work, it may or may not reverse anytime soon, nor ever. That said, I do not think your sell price will further reduce unless world economies further deflate.
7) Build a website that offers publishing rights, prints, whatever, test the waters and see if there's anything there. I have this as the final option for several reasons, there's sites out there now, it takes time and money, and Search Engine knowledge and funds that may make this Option #100.

Best of Luck! Perhaps we should share the search and sell both our files as a group, I always think a team beats one person.

Well its been a while since the first slides have been put on ebay. since then many other sellers have started listing Grand Prix Slides on ebay. Amaduzzi's slides are still not selling as well as they should be especially when comparing to slides that are offered by some american sellers. Many of those slides sell in the hundred dollar range some go even as high as 400+ . I realise many of those are a few years older (less than 10 years) but that should not cause such a huge difference.
But in General I think my friend has been happy with the results, even though he knows they should bring more. But they provide the family with some income.

here is latest selection:

That's amazing. I'll keep an eye out on that eBay page. I'm no Brit and Mansell isn't my favourite historic driver, but will buy some other photos :)

I see Simone has nothing on ebay currently, but I will let you know when he adds more. He is very busy at the moment.
