re. post 2750 (at the Palace):

That's practically in my back yard... Dave Walker in the Lotus, and is that a BT28 behind? But whose... Cyd Williams maybe?

And going back one post further: even by Lydden standards the circuit is looking particularly rustic!

I have some GP pics from '69 and '70 or so from a 120 (2 1/4 sq) Brownie; I shall try to find them and scan...

Here's another festival of grain from the aforementioned GB Kershaw - Alan Stringer's Crosslé 30F approaching Quarry Bend at the (sadly) long-defunct Longridge, May 1976. At the time I'd have been disappointed that the car was so small in the frame (I'm not sure I'd have noticed it was several metres out of focus), but looking back it captures some of the essence of a wonderful little track.. and its unusual viewing platform atop a quarry face.

A sadly-missed venue. Lovely shot.

I can't remember what camera I was using in December 1962 when I took this shot at the street circuit in Mount Maunganui. P. Clarke in his TR2 is about to be passed by John Riley's Monza Ferrari. The Ferrari is the car Ken Wharton was killed in at Ardmore in 1957.

Incredibly slippery for the Frazer Nash race at Cadwell Park yesterday. Julian Grimwade in the Norris Special (Paul Waine following) and Tony Lees in the Cognac Special.

A somewhat forlorn picture as you say, Simon!

But I thought the place was great and still maintain that when Kim Mather raced Warren Booth over two Libre heats it was absolutely fantastic and would have made magnificent TV footage on a par with the famous Martin Thomas/Gerry Marshall duel at Crystal Palace.

A couple more from Paeroa 2018. Sadly, after 27 years, that turned out to be the last meeting to be held on the streets of Paeroa.

First glance this looks so much like the pit corner at Amaroo Park...

Then you see it's not sandstone in the background, just haybales.

VW had a TV commercial showing a bug floating in a pool, early 70's I think. And a camper is big enough to act as its own sail even! Directional control might be another matter however.

This isn't the commercial I remember but its pretty good. And, it has 13 pounds of paint on it so if there was ever a need to get the weight under any race regulation maximum limit you now know where to start. Must be a Dr. Porsche influence....
