That's too bad. He had a classic voice for that event. I believe he was also in the movie, Hoosiers, as a basketball announcer. He will be missed.

Unfortunately, I must report that Tom Carnegie has died.

There are very few people, on this earth, who cannot be replaced.....
but Tom Carnegie was one of the few.

Sorry Rob, I've found video of it:When I think of all the Indy 500's I have attended, the one thing that always sticks out in my mind, is hearing Tom say " ....And he's on it!!! "

Tom was unique, and that voice will forever be the voice of IMS as far as I'm concerned.
After 40 years of following the 500 on tv and in print, it was heartwarming and "familiar" to finally hear that legendary voice in person at the first three USGPs at Indy.
It was a bit strange to hear him speaking of Schumacher and Hakkinen in place of Foyt, Mears, Unser, et al — but classic nonetheless.
RIP, Tom, you left behind millions of followers.
