That's too bad. He had a classic voice for that event. I believe he was also in the movie, Hoosiers, as a basketball announcer. He will be missed.

A vid on what was truly the voice of Indianapolis Motor Speedway for over 50 years.

And it's a new track record...

RIP, Tom, and thanks for the memories.

When I think of all the Indy 500's I have attended, the one thing that always sticks out in my mind, is hearing Tom say " ....And he's on it!!! "

Does anyone know where I can find an audio clip of him saying any of his now famous, sayings?? I'd like to add them to my website.
thanks,
rob

I was lucky enough to meet him few times at the Speedway and he was such a nice gentleman; even to a plebe like me. To me HE was Mr. Indy 500.

God Bless you SIR.

Sad to hear this. Oh, what I'd give for a voice and delivery like his! Nice tribute here:

I went to the track many times during the Month of May in the 60s, 70s and 80s and hearing Tom's voice booming over the PA was just as much a part of the experience as literally anything else out there.

R.I.P Tom Carnegie. No one will ever replace you.

Tom was unique, and that voice will forever be the voice of IMS as far as I'm concerned.

After 40 years of following the 500 on tv and in print, it was heartwarming and "familiar" to finally hear that legendary voice in person at the first three USGPs at Indy.

It was a bit strange to hear him speaking of Schumacher and Hakkinen in place of Foyt, Mears, Unser, et al — but classic nonetheless.

RIP, Tom, you left behind millions of followers.
