January 2001… James Robinson joins BAR

There were rumours last summer that former Williams race engineer James Robinson was set to join the BAR team after he left Williams. Robinson had been on ‘gardening leave’ since quitting as Williams’s Chief Operations Engineer after the Belgian GP. He also used to work with Villeneuve when the Canadian was at the Williams team from 1996-98.

James Robinson is now BAR’s new Chief Race Engineer and was in the team’s pit for the first time today

well what do you people think is this good news for the team, he learnt from some of the best designers Patrick Head and Adrian Newey

Whats gonna happen to Steve Farrel (?) Did Zonta's Engineer move on too? I know Zonta's engineer worked on his 97 car at Super Nova, then went to BAR in 99 with Zonta

Does that mean that Jock Clear is giving it up?, or has he been given another role within the squad?

Personally, i thought the Jock n Jacques partnership was a good one. I would hope that Robinson will be the engineer for Panis, and Jock Clear for JV.......that`d be excellant.

Also, i`m sure that James Robinson worked at Mclaren for some considerable time before he went to Williams.

I think Jock will stay where he is. He is JV's personal race engineer, Robinson is, I guess, like the overall manager of things, like Ross Brawn.
