Biography reveals that the F-1 boss used to be bullied by his ex-wife and was called "dwarf"

"I'm fine, thanks. Now when I wake up in the morning and it's raining, I do not take the blame. "
This was the response from Bernie Ecclestone to a friend who asked how he was after the breakup of his marriage in 2009.

Slavica Radic, his ex-wife 28 years younger, is described as an uncontrolled drunk in the new biography of Ecclestone, "No Angel", released this month and written by Tom Bower, author who had intimate access to the life of Bernie with a condition : not cite family issues.

This condition was not met. So Bernie has said he will not participate in the release of the books as intended. "I told him I would answer all the questions, but the only thing I did not want the book was my family. And then it happens, "lamented the octogenarian, who managed to hide personal details of his first biography, written by Susan Watkins.

This time, he could not. Bower showed some scenes worthy of a soap opera starring former Croatian model, resulting from "the arrogance fueled by an appetite for alcohol and the conviction that Bernie was unfaithful."

One of the portions of the book says that one day Bernie came into his office and shot with a black eye. He had been beaten by Slavica, who did not like the pose he made next to a model during an event in Italy. "She thought I was being serious with her, but was just kidding," he reported.

Another passage described the play as Bernie's ex-wife on his worst days: "She cries a lot, and sometimes throws dishes. I hide in another room, because it seems she loves to terrify me, "said the head of F-1, which also joked:" Never mind the dog, but beware of the wife."

At another dinner, this time with his friend John Coomb, Slavica uttered: "He thinks it's a great man, but he is a dwarf."

Slavica did not make a good impression on the Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet during the GP at Interlagos, 1983: "They're fighting too much. Bernie does not take **** from anybody, but this woman takes everything. "

It's amazing what men will put up with in an attractive woman.

"He thinks it's a great man, but he is a dwarf", well actually Slavica, Bernie is the brains behind one of the most powerful sports brands on the planet, whereas you are just an ageing ex-model. The book might be interesting, but I'm afraid the giant ego and arrogance of his wife would annoy me too much to read it.

Well he(naturally) is saying those aspects aren't true and paddock people are saying they don't agree with the view either.

It's a bit of meaningless gossip anyways. The Daily Mail has been serialising bits from the book, and The Sunday Times so far has the best other-side-of-the-story.

There's a lot of real rubbish in the book. According to the daily mail's extract, Max Mosley wanted Bernie to give a £1million to the Labour party, so that Mosley could become a Labour MP. Whoever gave that story to Bower, must be laughing his head off.

I dislike Bernie quite a bit, but that sort of self-effacing, self-deprecating (as I see it) humor could almost make me like the man.

There's a lot of real rubbish in the book. According to the daily mail's extract, Max Mosley wanted Bernie to give a £1million to the Labour party, so that Mosley could become a Labour MP. Whoever gave that story to Bower, must be laughing his head off.

http://www.dailymail...d.html?ITO=1490

The extract says:

Mosley was sympathetic, but Bernie was a Tory with no interest in helping Labour.
Nonetheless, in January 1997 Mosley repeated to Ecclestone: '£1million pounds will give us access and help us on tobacco.'
The tobacco companies were agitating against the ban.
About 30 per cent of circuits' adverts and 30 per cent of team sponsorship - notably Ferrari and McLaren - were funded by them.
Even so, Ecclestone was not keen to help his political enemies. Mosley ratcheted up the pressure.
It would be a great favour to me, Bernie,' he said.
Mosley, the barrister son of Sir Oswald Mosley, was a frustrated politician.
£1 million would not only give him access to Blair to lobby on Formula One's behalf, but also offer him the opportunity to present himself as a prospective Labour MP.
This, in Ecclestone's view, tilted the balance.
'I want Max to be in a good position to get a Labour seat,' Ecclestone said.
'I want to help Max look good in front of Blair.'

Taken as read, it was Bernie himself who gave that story to the author.
It's not clear why you think it "rubbish". In light of Mosley's frequent statement that his life's ambition was to go into (formal) politics, and being parachuted into a safe Labour seat was the easiest way to do that, the anecdote is entirely plausible.

Oh, goodness, yes, the man's a Tory. He's self-made, does not suffer fools gladly, abides by his word, is loyal to his friends, and tells the truth. With those traits, he could hardly be Labour.

I can't imagine any Labour constituency wanting as their candidate someone who had stood for Parliament in 1964 as a candidate for the fascist Union Movement (later became the BNP) and who later worked for the Conservative Party. Say what you will about Labour, but their grass roots members are quite picky about that sort of thing.

People say they can't understand why he would marry someone so tall but i always thought it was fairly obvious why. Bernie was bullied at school because of his hieght and obviously didn't want his kids to suffer the same fate so he decided to breed some hieght into the family by marrying the tallest woman he could find.

So you say that Labour supporters cannot be honest or loyal ? How are those rose tinted glasses ? I won't go on, but there are plenty of cases of tory MP's being disloyal or getting caught not telling the truth, (as well as Labour.) It seems that you hold a very low opinion of anybody who disagrees with your point of views.

Love the amateur psycho bit but maybe you should just buy the books and read why Bernie married Slavica.
BTW "hieght" x2

Done with his knowledge, apparently. In the Sunday Times he said that everything was open apart from family, which is why he's distressed - and apparently Bower is upset that Bernie is upset, which is unusual for Bower, who normally applies a hatchet to victims he detests.

With Bernie, though, you never know whether he's playing a different game. E.g. revenging himself on Slavica via Bower and distancing himself from it.

I take your point, but your logic is backwards.
Being a Tory does not guarantee that one has those traits, but having those traits usually precludes one's being Labour.

If he didn't want some things published, he wouldn't have talked about those things. Simple as that.
Bernie has plenty of business secrets, I am sure he could have kept certain episodes of his personal life private too if that's what he wanted.

Total nut job apparently, some truly cringeworthy stuff she has done.

Different friend, actually have more than one, its a great feeling, you should try it!
Fair call, i wont live that one down, goes to show what happens when you stick your neck out and share info that seems way out there.
Live and learn i guess, but i think i had the appropriate number of disclaimers around that source didn't i?

This person lives on lake Geneva, close to Allsport HQ. Stayed with them last year for a few days and talked a lot about F1.
Great person, very down to earth.

I'm surprised that people think/thought Bernie was a Soclialist of some kind.

It's easy to see Mosley as a lunatic fascist of the socialist left. His father was straight out of the Nazi ( National Socialist German Workers) mold.

But Bernie? He comes across as a ultra hardcore capitalist to me.

Exactly.

Though he gave a Million to Labour. But that I belive was more a ...er.......lets call it "business deal" over Tobacco.

If he was a socialist. I'm sure he would be giving his millions away in the name of progressive "fairness" as all Millionaire socialists do.

I wonder why Mosely felt that the natural home for his, many would say "extremist" views, was the Labour party?
