Oh my God! Really? I didn't know they had that going on. Is this advertised? Do you need an advance ticket/pass? Is it very busy or limited access? (ya that was a dumb question)
Now I'm going to have to take an extra 1 1/2 days off work!

The open pit day is free on the Wednesday and no tickets are needed, just turn up (I think it was 1-5 pm or something), and quite frankly it isn't all that crowded (I've been the past 3 years). Busy, but not unreasonably so. The pit garages are open, and most cars are in various stages of assembly, but there is a barrier between the crowd and the pits...i.e. you can't walk right through all the garages, but it's still great. A couple of years ago I saw an impromtu press conference with Jarno Trulli. There are usually a few pit crew members willing to talk to the fans. Definately worth going to if you're in town by then.
They also have a few things in the city leading up to the race. Last year was a race between a F3000 car and a world-class sprinter (for free, on Crescent St. Thursday at lunch). 2 years ago there was a pit crew competition (crew from the support races) on Ste Catherine St. in front of the Place des Arts.....but I haven't heard what is going on this year...if anyone knows, please post it here.
