Anyone got any suggestions for the top ten most spectacular crashes of the the last ten years from all forms of motorsport. Out of respect though not including any crashes which may have been fatal or led to career/life changing injuries. The first that came into my head was Robert Kubica's accident from the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix in 2007 or Taro Sekiguchi at the 2007 250cc Czech Republic Grand Prix.

This is thread is made with the upmost respect for the drivers and riders who put their lives not only competeing but also entertaining us. Please no fatal or career ending crashes, this thread is simply to remember classic spectacular moments from the world of motorsport.

- Sekiguchi

Spa `98 has got to be up there, wiped more than half of the grid!

Or when Ralf goes airborne ass he tried to leap over Barrichello on Melbourne.

Then there's also Webber trying to enter the Red Bull air race

Outside your ten year timescale - but Christian Fittipaldi's Minardi backflip at the end of the 1993 Italian GP was pretty special:

Ortelli's crash at Monza a few years ago, could have been way worse if he had hit that Audi:

Not sure if they qualify or not but two that come to mind are

Christian Fittipaldi's backflip at Monza

and Dennis Vitolo running over Mansell at Indy

doesn't look that spectacular there but it was pretty weird at the time as they were under a caution and Vitolo basically just ran him over.

EDIT : ooop sorry amphicar already had Fittipaldi's

Schumacher had an off into a gravel trap a while ago that was seriously spectacular. Part of the car dug in, while at high speed, and the car lifted and flipped / spun around 5 - 6 times before it came to rest. Very worrying until we saw him emerge unhurt. I cannot remember which race it was at, I'm afraid. 7 -8 years ago I think, definately in a Ferrari.

It was in Melbourne, at the top of the circuit. Somewhere around turn 5 or 6, I think.

Mike Conway's crash at Indianapolis last year was one of those that makes you catch your breath. When a car gets into the fence above the wall it gets ugly fast.

Luckily it looks like Mike is doing well.

For me it would be Kubicas crash in Canada 2007 after that it would be Webber in Valencia 2010. Both accidents definitely had the potential to be fatal and the crashes both left me speechless especially Webbers as he came out completely unharmed.

this.

How anyone was not hurt is beyond me. And spectacular as i've never seen a car do that against a barrier - was the cause ever found?

The crashes I've seen "live" (on TV) that made me go cold were Katherine Legge, Kenny Brack, Robert Kubica & Luciano Burti... all of them gave me a lot of concern initially. The only other crash that I can recall seeing that made me think "wow" was Michael MacDowell at Texas, but I knew he was perfectly ok so didn't have any concern at the time of viewing.

I think Melbourne 2002, Canada 2007 and Europe 2010 have to be the top 3 for me.

Melbourne 2002 was pretty amazing considering the circumstances (first corner of the year), but Canada 2007 and Europe 2010 were more 'scary' in terms of fearing for the drivers' safety.

Holy moly, that reverse angle is scary. They've really done so much to protect these guys now. It's incredible that he was relatively uninjured after a shunt of that magnitude. If he'd've gone over that wall though...it doesn't bare thinking about really...

To be fair, you should take the link of out of respect.
Firemen and marshals are just as important as race drivers, though i realize you weren't suggesting otherwise.

An awful experience to watch that live. The onboard footage from Ryan Hunter-Reay's and Helio Castroneves' cars was horrifying stuff. It's great that Conway has recovered fully and will drive full time this season.

Also to bike racing, Shinya Nakano in Mugello 2004.
