With the brilliance of a Adrian Newey, I just realised how special and brilliant another top designer was: Rory Byrne. I searched for interviews with him and I couldn't find one. He sure was a humble man.

Can anyone post (or send me) interviews with Rory Byrne, preferably during the Benneton and Ferrari days. Especially scans from magazins could be usefull.
i am trying to get a look into his design philosophy and maybe discuss the impact his designs had.

I really miss the guy. Wish we could lure him into a comeback... :)

I wish his health and good life. I hope he is relaxing and having a great time. We all respect his works during his formula one years. I believe that a man of his calibrate on science and engineering will take a good path.

I found this speech of his on video.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I once read he refused a pay raise because he already though he was making too much more than the team's mechanics...

No he doesn't! He should enjoy his life. He has done more for Ferrari than anyone could ever ask for.

Greatest F1 car designer ever for me, no formal training in engineering or aerodynamics or design yet has designed multiple championship winning cars.

Yeah, I too think that Rory Byrne was the best. He was just much less glorified by the press, because he was in a team with the great tactical brain of Ross Brawn and Schumacher, but beating Williams-Renault in 94 was quite an achievement. On the other hand Williams was the British team, at the start of the 90's they were battling against Senna & Prost with Nigel Mansell, the team was usually making a lot of tactical errors and the car was the only thing flawless. Patrick Head was never shy to point who made the cars and it's normal that Newey became more respected. I think Benetton could have taken the constructors crown if it wasn't for JJ Lehto's accident, he was just another driver afterwards and the second car was never remotely competitive until Johnny Herbert came.
Both are great designers, but I prefer Byrne because he was designing his cars with the driver preferences in mind and I think this changed the whole approach for teams and drivers.
