I know in the 1980s, Barrie Hinchliffe Productions (known as BHP or BHP Sport) have provided a lot of motorsport footage on television and video tapes especially for the BBC. They was based in London.

They had a website: www.bhp-sport.com but it doesn't work.

Now as I know the compnay has gone bust, but who got or owns the footage now?

I found a post from the Pistonheads forum:

Steve Rider was a director of BHP Sport ( Barrie Hinchcliffe Productions) he was removed from that post in the early 1990's as other production companies complained that BHP were winning all the contracts for Grandstand and there was a conflict of interest as Rider was also a presenter for the BBC.

I have been reading stories that Dukevideo got all of the footage, is it true?

Then I hope Duke start releasing things, as they've acquired Videovision too (and still no DVD released of WSC )

Yep, BHP finally went out of business, everything was sol doff, including their archive about 2 years ago. I'm not sure, but I thought I heard that some fo the directors fo the actual films were trying to buy them and release them themselves, but I've not heard anything since the auction.

Their film "The Greatest years Of Rallying - The 1980's" is one of my all-time favourites. An emotional roller-coaster stuffed with great footage and narrated by Steve Rider.

Sad to hear they'd gone out of business.

It is because they have made a lot of material such as Porsche Club GB, BTCC (especially in the late 1980s) and one make racing series season reviews.

They are difficult to find and I hope Duke Video will release some of the footage. Perhaps I could try emailing them as they do make DVDs based on demand like the F3000 season reviews.

Where did the footage was sold off to? Duke Video or is there others?

No, as I said earlier, the archive wasn't sold to Duke, it was (probably) sold off to the respective directors/producers of the original films.

Aren't there BHP connections with the Castrol films now being marketed on DVD as "The BP Archive" or some similar title? There was a thread on here and a couple of us were given a multiple set of DVDs. Problem is mine is leant to someone at pesent, so I have nothing to check for contacts right now.

I always thought the Castrol Films were produced way before BHP appeared on the scene. I always think of the BP films as 50's/60's stuff.

Not as making them originally but as marketing them now. BP is merely current parent for Castrol, their only claim to be named now. No idea whether BP made motorsport films to any extent in 50s to compare with Shell's Coupe des Alpes.

I'm sure BHP had offices in the same block of a Milton Keynes industrial unit as MSD (MotorSport Developments) when I was there with Hyundai WRC.

I have loads of their stuff from the 80's and 90's - their BRC and BTCC videos (remember them kids?) were a must have at the end of every year, being direct recordings of the BBC coverage. 88 BRC particularly is an absolute classic and gets watched again and again.

There was a time (probably back in the '90s) when the BP archive was released by the late Chris Nixon's Terrific Stuff label. I know I have them all on VHS from back then but they clearly no longer have the rights as they are now available via Duke.

I don't think so.

Found this via Google:

Address:
20 Maryland Road
Milton Keynes
MK15 8HF
UK

Telephone: (0)1908 617733
Fax: (0)1908 611511

So it must be their last location before they folded.

Not exclusively from Duke though. As mentioned, I have the boxed set from the new source that includes some Duke sell (or did sell). In fact I already had one of the films that are in the set and I originally got that from Duke.

Does anyone have any idea where the BHP's footage/archives are?

As I am still on the lookout for the support races from the old Birmingham Superprix.

Thank you.
