I'm new so please be nice.
I am looking for a Game, where you can watch a simulated race and not participate, like you could on F1CE on the PS3. But also where you can change some basic visuals like the colour schemes of a car, or the team/driver names.
Does anyone have any ideas of a Simulator where I can do this.
I tried with TORCS, but it's not the easiest Simulator in the world to edit in my opinion. But maybe that's because of my limited skills.
any advise would be appreciated.
thank you

Other than that, you could stage an AI race in rF with say 20 cars and once you're on the start grid, simply press Esc and retire. Then hit the "+" key and choose an AI car to watch all the cars racing against each other. rF would also allow you to make car liveries - it's an "open" sim and highly moddable.

That's a good idea, though I'd suspect it would get a tad boring after a while as, if I recall correctly, you can only spectate the CPU driving your car and not any of the other cars in the race.Hire a driver in Forza 2 or 3?
Are you looking for a game that'll allow you to do this on a specific platform? If you're looking on the PC, then I can't really offer sound advice, but if you're looking on consoles, I might be able to help.
In the meantime, my best suggestion would be to browse players' replays on the Forza 3 storefront. You can't name the drivers or teams participating in them, and they're all events that happened to other people, so it might not settle your fix if you're looking to watch a computer-generated race as if it were a real one. But if you're just looking to watch racing on a sim without having to participate, the Forza 3 storefront is a great place to check out.
Additionally, F1 World Grand Prix 1997 for the Nintendo 64 also used to have "Television Cameraman" as a selectable driver, which allowed you to watch races from the perspective of any car at any time. There was even an option that made the CPU replicate the events of the actual race. It's a bit outdated, though, and the graphics aren't very good, so you might be better off watching F1CE on the PS3.

You could watch the replay and change the car you follow Not sure if you can watch a replay of a hired driver race because that does seem a bit daft. That's a good idea, though I'd suspect it would get a tad boring after a while as, if I recall correctly, you can only spectate the CPU driving your car and not any of the other cars in the race.
You could watch other people's races with Project Gotham racing online TV mode. I never tried it myself.

The tip to watch rFactor races driven by the AI is pretty good... especially if you are handy enough to vary the AI strength in plr.file and with the talent editor... I once watched a whole race of 2007 F1 cars on the old Monza banking. Pretty spectacular.
