I'll be attending this year's European GP at the Valencia street circuit. I've already bought a ticket for the G2 grandstand.

I will be going, for the third time Has anyone received their tickets yet? Getting a bit anxious as only three weeks left until I fly out

I'll probably be in spain during the valencia gp, anyone ever been that can tell me if it's a lot better live? Seems like a bit of a festival atmosphere even though the track and racing leave a bit to be desired. Although I must admit I'm mainly basing that on the senioritas in the rooftop pools

Hmmm, I wouldn't say festival atmosphere as such. But if you're in the vicinity it's definitely worth a visit.

I've been three times, for the reasons that it's easy to get to (the Metro system runs to the circuit) and the location is superb being right on a beautiful beach. The tickets are also cheap compared to othe European circuits.

Yes the racing itself has not been the best, but when you're catching the warm mediterranean sea breeze and at the same time watching F1 cars scream infront of you, I can't say I was that bothered :-) I've always sat in the Malvarrosa area which is close to the sea, I guess the other areas might feel more industrial. If you can afford it grandstand M6 offers brilliant view of the cars. If not grandstand M7 is also pretty good.

The only thing that spoilt it was the completely over the top security, which seems to have gotten worse year by year. Expect to get any bags searched on the way in, I had to argue with them to let me take my Kangeroo TV unit in (they hadn't seen one before so decided it was illegal recording equipment). You can take non alcoholic drinks in as long as they're in plastic bottles with the lids removed. So just take spare bottle caps with you and use discretion when taking a drink. I mixed a bottle of schnapps with some lemonade, this saved me from having to buy the extortionaly priced beer inside the circuit ;) Once outside there are plently of nice bars/restaurants on the seafront and the F1 'Beach Park' also sells food/drink for a reasonable amount.

Sorry to bring up this topic; I have a question about this year's European GP, but as far as I can see, it doesn't have its own thread. I didn't want to create a new one just for this question, especially as I think not many of you are travelling to the GP.

I have a friend who is in Valencia this week and is planning to visit the Grand Prix for a day or two. He asked me about Thursday's pit walk, but I've only been to the Hungarian GP and I guess it's different. So the question is, what kind of ticket do you need to be able to attend the pit walk? In Hungary any kind of ticket grants you a free admission to Thursday's pit walk, even if it's just a Friday's ticket. What is the case in Valencia, does anyone know?

I haven't been but I'd imagine any GP to be more enjoyable when actually there.

Just wondering if anyone went to the Valencia street circuit at the weekend, if so how was it?

Did they provide any shade from the sun in the areas around the grandstands? And was the circuit security still OTT, particularly regarding drinks bottles?

Reason I ask is that it's a race I like going to, but the last time I went in 2011 put me off. They fenced off all the areas we used for shade in previous years, they didn't allow unbrellas and made it difficult to bring drinks in. IMO unnacceptable when it's so hot.

If the race is run again I'd consider going, but not unless they go some way to making it more comfortable for us poor paying spectators....
