Jack built the car from a damaged 356 coupe [rolled by previous owner, boxer,Tony Madigan], for Appendix K racing. A 'Chinese Deal' between Jack and I resulted in me finishing the repairs, making an alloy bonnet and engine lid, and doing a few 'mods.' to the body-work. In exchange, Jack 'worked over' the engine in my VW Beetle.
The 1500 356 engine was supercharged [Marshall, I think], and later on, Jack reversed it to a 'mid-mount' set up. It ran on Kombi wheels with Goodyear radials. I drove it one day at Warwick Farm, and it scared the daylights out of me - couldn't wait to get back to the 'safety' of my my Beetle!
Anyone know where the car is now?
Cheers,
Greg

Greg,
Then only person that I can think might know something about this car is Phillip Schudmak. He can probably be tracked through Tony Johns Motor Books or the 356 Register.

Following Jack Bono's ownership the car came to Newcastle and was raced and hillclimbed by Bill Hall.
The next owner was Neil Cummins who also lived in Newcastle. Neil owned it for a number of years and
used it for various hillclimbs and club lap dashes etc. Neil moved to Queensland many years ago.
I was at the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Lakeside circuit this past weekend and met up with Neil
again. During our discussions I enquired about the old Porsche and Neil advised me that a year or two ago
he was contacted by a fellow on the Gold Coast who has spent a small fortune restoring it as a road car
- unfortunately with a Subaru turbocharged engine if I remember correctly.

Thanks for that, Brian - although it's not what I was hoping to hear, perhaps!
We've all got stories like this, but Jack offered to sell me the 356,road-registered, with trailer, spares etc., for 500 quid!
