I'm expecting my new PS2 soon. I have read that there's a bunch of F1 games scheduled to appear for that platform. This thread's intention is to find the best program out there, and to provide info for people interested in them. I'll post my views as soon as things are set up.

I bought EA's F1 2000 season for ps2.
On the plus side:
The graphics are nice.
The engine sound is the best I hear on console.
No pop ups.
great frame rate.
Nice weather effects.
The "assists" will allow newcomers to jump in and race.
On the minus side.
The AI is on acid. They drives like a bunch suicidal Kurt kobains. And when you lap someone, it's even worse. Gaston regularly takes me out of the traks.
No jump start penalty.
No penalty for jumping curbs.
Over-all, a very decent console F1 simulator.

I tend to agree, it didn't get particuarly good reviews but its a good game. Its very easy with the assists on (maybe thats why the reviews were pants) but take them off and its a much better game. The graphics are cool, not GT3 standard but I presume thats cause you have 22 cars and the logos and signs and buildings are all crisp and you can recognise bits of the telly more than other games.
The sound is awesome, if you haven't Srrh, rig it up to a good stereo. Sounds like a real car, even the popping when you come off the power.
The AI is an absolute joke though espically on slow corners. The car behaves a bit silly when you crash often spinning in the air, but at least you see the floor. The damage is cool with your wings flying off, but its too easy for that to happen and then its over.
Pretty cool allround, excpet for the "really very-AI"

I'd have to concur with most of the sentiments here. I played it at EB on demo and it looked and SOUNDED AMAZING. Didn't have enough time to properly evaluate the AI.
Anyone know of what other F1 games are on their way for PS2? I think I also read that there is a ChampCar gaming coming as well.

I am really enjoying F1 Championship Season 2001 on PS2. The graphics, sound, and camera views are really nice. The AI is very bizarre. There are some corners at some tracks that the cars go so outrageously quick, and other corners that they should seemingly sweep through where they all just pile up.
I would also like to have seen a bit more polish to the game, such as better camera replays, more realistic penalties and flag situations, and the scenario mode from EA's PSone title of the same name would be nice. The game seems to have been rushed to the table for PS2 US launch.
It would also have been slick to have podium celebrations with Champagne after the event, afterall the pit crew action is incredibly lifelike.
There are two F1 games for PS2 coming by summer, one by Ubisoft, and the other by Sony(Psygnosis). There will also be two rally games, one called WRC looks especially nice. It will supposedly cover the WRC championship schedule. I look forward to those.

I bought EA F1 2000 b/c Gran Turismo 3 keeps getting delayed!!! One thing that bugs me about the game is that at Spa I can take the Bus Stop Chicane flat out!? Even with minimal downforce. Other than that it's a great game.

Personally, I didn't much like EA's F1 Championship Season 2001 for the PS2. My brother owns it, and he likes it more than I do. Here is why I don't like it much:
1. In two player mode, you can only race against each other, not the rest of the field too. From what I hear, this capability is rare so I shouldn't complain about it, but really, I'd get a lot more fun out of multiplayer mode if all 22 cars were on the track.
2. Few extras or special features. You hear about all the cool things that are coming in games like F1RC, and you wonder why this game has nothing.
3. There's no "skip 5 minutes" or equivalent feature IN THE PS2 VERSION of this game during qualifying. So either you sit there for an hour waiting for qualifying to finish, or you abort early, which isn't a good option, because everyone always qualifies faster than you after you abort. Some have said this feature is indeed there, and it may be in the PC or the PS 2000 version, but it's not in the PS2 version!

Anyone hear any news about SCEE's Formula 1 2001 for PS2? It's not listed on SCEE's official website, and I only get sketchy information about it from the various PS2 websites. In particular, everything is very vaague when it comes to release date. The latest rumour I heard was April or May for the North American release. Anybody have any other info? Links?

In the past few days I have seen more info about it. It will most likely be released in States at the end of May. Check out racingfaction.com for some great screen shots as well as a preview.
It looks like it will be the nicest one out for PS2.

I do searches all the time to find out more about "Formula 1 2001", but rarely are there any dates attached to any previews or screenshots I see. Sony didn't even show the game at the lastest gaming shindig - The Tokyo Game Show!!!

Gotta love the sounds! True electronic pleasure.
Now, another good thing is the analog support for the racing wheels and pedals, which makes driving way better.
Yes, the ability to pass time during qualifying doesnt seem to be there.
