This Chassis number is 2212227
The question is what can we trace as regards the history of this car ? Who we wonder built/ran the car Alpina ? Schnitzer ? etc
The owner thinks perhaps it dates from 1971 and is rumoured to have been used by Brian Muir in 1973 and by Tony Lanfranchi and Barry williams in the Tourist Trophy in 1975.
But is this true ? I wonder if anyone out there can help ?

The reason I ask is because of this discussion I found on a BMW board:
http://www.m5board.c...2-s-1972-a.html
There might be some info/contacts there of use. Caution: The discussion is 13 pages long!
I just fitted one of these ZF transmissions to my DB2.

Is this the car advertised for sale recently. Blue / white colours ? If so I can help you with some info.

I have photos of the car that my late father shared with Tony and Barrie in the '77 six hour race at Silverstone.
There is also the Mathwell-bulit car that Dad raced in '73 and Tony then took over - this car is now out in the States.
There was also a 3.0 BMW that Derrick Brunt used to race and I think both Dad and Tony had one-off drives in this.
Best person to ask about any old BMW racers is probably Jeremy Walton - he might see this thread as he is a TNF member.

If it was a full G2 car, like the one Muir raced in 73 here, it couldn't have been used in the 75 TT could it? That was for Trophy de l'Avenir regs, or Group 1 and a half, as it was called at the time.
The car that Brian Muir raced in '73 was built by Alpina for BMW Concessionaires. It was run by Malcolm Gartlan Racing on their behalf, and returned to BMW at the end of the season. I do not think it would have been worthwhile "downgrading" a car to race in a lesser spec.

....as my (very poor) photo shows.

Note that the Muir car was a 3.0 CSL. The car in question is described as a 3.0 CS, a different beast altogether.

Richard - have you got any pics of what it currently looks like or a link to it's sales?
