Quick question (posted on the apps thread, but possibly not relevant there).

If I record F1 practices or quali, and watch them later in the day, is there a way to watch the live timings at the same time too, on a Vista PC? I can't see that functionality on formula1.com. Or must I trade in my ancient mobile and buy a smartphone, so I can download one of the android or iphone apps (which I understand you can synchronise with recordings)?

If you record them and watch them later then they are no longer live timings. If you are asking "Is there a program that allows me to do a continuous screen-save from Live Timing?", then the answer is "No", not in any Windows program I've heard of. Live Timing is a JAVA applet - I suppose, that if you were a JAVA programmer you might be able to write a patch, but I would have thought that JAVA was designed in such a way that this sort of thing was not possible, DRM and all that.

It is possible to capture live timing from formula1.com, but you`ll need to buy a program called "Camtasia Studio" to do that.

I know you're on PC, but on the Mac I use iShowU to do this. It allows me to capture a portion of the screen and set the frame rate (all the way down to twice a second, which keeps the file smaller and has no effect on how the timing looks). It works great.

Here's a link to a PC program that might do the same...

Thanks. I see there are youtube videos on how to use it, linked from the support forum. I'll take a look, and report back.

This is possibly the last year that I'll be able to watch the Friday practices as they happen, so I need to investigate options where I can catch up on the Friday sessions before P3 and quali. And there are health issues in the family which may mean I miss some sessions this year too.
