If you find you can`t keep up with the AI cars in Grand Prix Legends follow this tip and you`ll be mixing it with the rest of the pack :)

(1) Back up your driver.ini and gpl_ai.ini files located in your GPL folder. In case you want to return to the original set up.

DOWNLOAD
(2)aitweaks.zip available here ....

http://webhome.idire...l/filesmain.htm

Rename driver-slow.ini as driver.ini and place in GPL folder.

DOWNLOAD
(3)New gpl_ai.ini available here ....

http://www.kolumbus..../gpl/files.html

Use this to replace your original gpl_ai.ini in the GPL folder.

This will make the computer cars overtake more realistically. No more single line processions around the track like in the original game.

(4)Access the gpl_ai.ini (Double click on it!!). Find the section which begins with [ magic ]. You will see a value called npt_override =

Change the value of npt_override = to 1.20 and save the file.

Any value greater than 1.00 will slow down the AI cars.
Any value between 0.01 and 0.99 will speed up the AI cars.

*************************************************

Here are a few AI lap values I got at Watkins Glen and Monza for example ....

npt_override = 1.00
Watkins Glen pole 1.03:27
.....back of grid 1.08:53

Monza pole 1.28:31
.....back of grid 1.32:41
--------------------------------------------
npt_override = 1.10
Watkins Glen pole 1.05:78
.....back of grid 1.12:62

Monza pole 1.32:68
.....back of grid 1.39:86
--------------------------------------------
npt_override = 1.20
Watkins Glen pole 1.06:12
.....back of grid 1.21:03

Monza pole 1.35:67
.....back of grid 1.48:87

Sorry for the long post but I know how frustrating it is to see the rest of the grid fly off into the distance with no chance of catching them again :D

As your lap times improve just bump the npt_override = value back down again.

Happy racing !

I tried Jesse Laakso`s link for the new gpl_ai.ini

It isn`t on the Files page at the moment !!

If you are having trouble getting it I`ll post you mine.

Put New GPL_ai.ini in the subject of your email and I`ll post it to you. ( BTW it`s only 25Kb )

Hi BH,

That 1.03 pole is for the AI car with 1.08 car 19 at the back of the grid!

Me ...1.03 :lol:

My best time at the Glen is 1.07.xx !!!

That`s the whole point of slowing the rest of the computer controlled field. With a bit of experimenting with the " npt_override = value " you will find a pace that is comfortable for you to race at.

People often say that the learning curve is steep for GPL, and it is. I think it`s a good idea to slow the AI down for beginners so they don`t lose hope in winning a race. :)

The learning curve is pretty much vertical :)
I'm still finding out new things every time I play, like today I learned how to drive through the chicane flat out at Monaco, i've not been able to do it until today..! What a stunning game though, I hope people keep playing it for many years yet (well, at least until GPL2 ;) )

The AI cars are pretty tough on some tracks , but to be honest I rarely race them anymore, if i'm practicing I do it on an empty track and for racing I go to VROC, you get a better quality of first corner pile-up against humans :)
