Hi, I'm going to the Melbourne GP and have a question about the seats I have. They're in the Jones Stand, section D, block 3. I know it's the furthest section from the track, but just how bad/good are these particular seats?? Is there still a good view or is it too far to the left?

Also, can someone please tell me where the podium is located?

Thanks!

The seats in the Jones stand are probably the best in the whole track. You will without a doubt enjoy those seats. I have necer sat in that stand, but from walking on the outside of it, i gather you should get a view down pit-straight, and a great view of the turn 1-2 chicane. A lot a drivers go off there during practise. Also the best passing spot on the circuit. I guess that's why they are the most expensive seats? :)

I will be sitting in the Prost stand next year, but i only managed to secure block B, which means i won't be able to see down pit straight. :( Doesn't matter really, cause i sat there last year and relly enjoyed myself and still saw more than plenty.

The podium is just above the last pit garage, closest to the start lights. It will be near Ferrari's pits next year. It opposite section O, P or Q of the Fangio stand, if i remember correctly. For two years i sat in block R of the fangio stand, but i had my view of the podium blocked by the start lights gantry and those bloody "Melbourne" signs. :)

Anyway, enjoy yourself there and lets hope we see a great race!

the podium is opposite the o,p,q sections of the Fangio stand.
You should enjoy the Jones stand, a great place to watch the cars. However, if you want to join the hordes of people who run to the podium to catch a glimpse of the drivers, I suggest sprinting!
I've sat in Fangio Stand, Section R the last 3 years, and once the cheq. flag is waved just run!
Just make sure you get a nice spot of the drivers to watch. Also, after the race, I recommend staying around the pitwall, I got Ricardo Zonta's autograph, and he was most friendly. Also at the entrance of the pitlane is where the cars sit after scrutineering, and you can get a good look at them after the race.
The only bad thing about the GP is that getting anywhere to the drivers is impossible, except for one thing (which I'll keep to myself), so if you get the chance to get an autograph, get it!

regards,
doohanOK.

Thanks for the help, guys. Looking forward to Melbourne 2000....my first GP!!! Not looking forward to the sprinting, though, but looks like it'll be necessary (trust me to be all the way down the other end!!!)

I'm going to Melbourne next year for my first Grand Prix as well. I have seats in the Fangio stand, but during the practice sessions, I was thinking about taking a walk to other areas of the track. Aren't there general admission areas that you can have access to for different views? Which ones are the best ones?
I didn't think you could go on the track after the flag drops. Didn't Imola get fined this year, and Hungary the year before because of track invasions?
