This engine was mentioned to me on the weekend, a boxer twin with side valves with some clever air valve springs as well as no oil pump for reduced friction at non peak pressures ....

The valve 'springs' (text at website) ...

Not quite sure how they are resolving lubrication issues for the camshaft and apparently plain big end bearings, they mention oil injection and emissions standards being met. It was mentioned to me that it needed an initial shot of compressed air to get it started (get the valves seated no doubt).

I can't seem to register for further download info ....

Although I haven't read it yet, a glowing report from Harry Watson is definitely not what I would call a "usual claim".

Funny how it's died though.

Hmmmm I thought of that idea years ago. I didn't have anything like the engineering skills to do it so I didn't chase it up.

Well the OHV diagram is obviously just a system layout while the exploded view is the real McCoy.

Sorry Mate but thats pushing it too far, side valves were invented hundreds of years ago

The two cylinder boxer configuration should keep the revs down, which might reduce the valve seat hammering which is usual with air springs.

:p

I meant the use of the head as a pressure vessel to hold the cam buckets up instead of springs.

Cheap racer you seem to be the 'odd engine guy' here, have you seen this one?

Someone has turned a radial engine inside out ...... for some reason.

Some interesting ideas. Intake and compression handled by one cylinder, power and exhaust by another. Not sure how he worked out that a 12 cylinder 2.3 litre is going to be more efficient than a 4 cylinder.

Sigh, Youtube - nope. can you give me a name so I can find it elswhere please?

Yep I love odd engines, facinate me and always have probably cause I'm an odd person

Mind you we have had a couple of odd engine threads here and they are always well attended so I'm not Robinson Crusoe!

Hmm where is that thread where Desmo had the odd ball Ferrari museum engines such as the weirdo 2 stroke, may be relevent to the current themes ....

The "Doyle rotary engine".

Thanks Mate. http://www.doylerota...m/evolution.php

Wow that 3D is fun to play with!

The guy's having fun and not hurting anyone but regardless of what he thinks that looks mighty expensive to produce to me, has a central crankshaft unsuitable for current driveline setups and so will never make it into a mass produced car either.

I am a fan of isolated combustion chambers and like the concept if not the execution of various Ring/Toroidal/Circular Engines kicking around ...
