You lucky thing Giraffe, i love Cobras
You're not kidding! We soon blew this Chevron away! Simon's dad said on our return that we spent more time off the track than on it!

Great when the back end steps out under hard cornering, and holding on to your hemet to prevent your neck being snapped when the wind catches you down the Wellington Straight.
I assume you enjoyed the day as much as I did, and wasn't it a nice lunch?
The Classic looks like being better than ever this year.
Nice to meet up with artisdeco in the flesh.

We all have our favourites.... The ex-DART Chevron B16 (CH-DBE-29) of Charlie Remnant
By giraffe138 at 2011-05-04
Looking at this picture with the drivers crash helmet touching the roof of the car made me curious about roll over protection regulations for these cars. We are used to seeing classic Formula Ford, Junior, F3 cars etc with large roll hoop structures several inches above the height of the driver's head but this doesn't seem to apply here. I'm not sure there is any protection afforded here.

There is a roll bar in this car but Charlie has issues with his height, hence the bubble in the roof / window. He is trying to further modify the car to accommodate his lanky frame more comfortably. Interestingly his wife was partly responsable for him selling B26 "Chocolate Drop" back to TNFer John Ruston because she was not happy about him racing an open car!
Strictly speaking, I suspect Charlie's height should preclude him from racing this car.

I may be in a minority of one but E Types have never really done it for me- always look a bit crass I think. So thanks for the Chevron , Cobra and Ferrari pictures.I wil be attending all three days of the event and am very much looking forward to it.Just hope access to pit lane and garages remains as good.Is the Classic going to use the old pits or the new Berniedrome down towards Club ?
Never being one to go against the flow, I agree with you! I have never understood why the E-Type was so popular, while I regard the D-Type as the epitome of a proper sports car of the fifties, the E looks clumsy in my eyes.
We were assured that there would be 'access all areas' as in the past, so no worries there John. Also both pit and paddock areas will be needed to cope with the massive entry lists, so plenty to see in both, and they are running a fleet of Routemaster's between the two, for media and spectators.
Maybe we should start a seperate 'Classic' thread to cover this event?
Over to you Giraffe.

Alan started this 'one size fits all' thread with the best of intentions, but I can see a bit of a log jam looming with all of the major historic meetings approaching. I've tried to stick to the rules and posted my 'media day' stuff here, but people are already having to be directed to it or are missing it altogether. What do you think, Alan?

Go for it.Rather than open a new thread for every historic race meeting, I thought it may be useful to have a thread on which to post general information about some lower-profile meetings - no doubt the big festivals will still comand threads of their own.

Ok, I've e-mailed Twinny & asked him to open a new thread for the Silverstone Classic 2011 & to graft all the posts from #163 onwards over to it.

That may be so for the spectator, but after Wednesday I can assure you that it's great fun to race around!

Good to see fellow WDK stablemate Charlie Remnant's B16. I hope Masters will run the pre66 twin cam class in the WSM so I get a run.

You know better than I, Ted. I was only going by the card displayed on the car's windscreen.Tony That is NOT the original CUT7 . It is John Lewises re-incarnation of the 2nd version, The original(although unfortunatly "modsports" ) was there now owned by Lord Drayson and run by martin Stretton.

My favourite 80s racing E-type,still watch the video of A.Unser driving it in a Pirelli rally. You know better than I, Ted. I was only going by the card displayed on the car's windscreen.
You would think its results in historic racing in the 80s driven buy Roger Mac would be a nice bit of history.
