When it comes to motor racing, there's nothing more beautiful and pure than round-the-clock endurance events. So, what are your favourites? Which are the ones you can't afford to miss? Which make you feel like a proper petrol head?

NOTE: Poll only includes selected events from 10 to 24 hours! Those 6h (etc) races are more like sprints to me :D

Only Le Mans at the moment, but I have been getting more interested in endurance racing over the last couple of years or so and will probably be able to add a few more events to the "unmissable" category soon.

There's only 1 endurance race that really counts and that's Le Mans.
Every real petrol head needs to attend that one.

Daytona, Le mans and Petit. Sebring too

The pre-latter as Road atlanta is awesome.

So you're not an Audi fan when Sebring and Petit are on? ;)

Le Mans and Nurburgring are always the highlights of the motorsport year - so as you can imagine, June is a bit hectic time! Spa and Daytona are definitely on the must-see list as well (thou admittedly I might not be a big fan of Ratel's GT3 and Grand-Am), and the two classic ALMS events are like bookmarks for the start of the season (Sebring), and end (PLM).

Those are the essentials, however I also pay some small attention to Dubai, Bathurst and Zolder. Not enough to get excited thou.

Le Mans, if only for the myth.
But the endurance race I love best is the Spa 1000 km, even if it really is something of a sprint.
But then, track-wise, nothing really compares to Spa.

An endurance race at Potrero de los Funes would be good. AFAIK the longest race held on the track since its renovation was the two-hour long FIA GT event in 2008.

Love Le Mans, it's the one race I dream of going to over every other, and that's from a diehard F1 fan. There's something about the track, the cars and the history of the whole thing that all comes together into this mythical race.

the bigness of le mans didnt hit me till the drivers parade around town. it was PACKED.

daytona is pretty good, watched last couple of years, draws in alot of great drivers, the tracks pretty tricky, theres the long night aswell (11hours?) vs 6ish at le mans.

dakar is the ultimate endurance race though ;)

Le Mans 24 and the Bathhurst.

Irony - it is now endurance racing where drivers have to race flatout all the way and where the tyres are good enough not to HAVE to be conserved, not f1.

i dunno about that, lamy went off after running out of michlins or made a error and blamed it on 3 stint old tyres :o
must of had atleast 50laps on those tyres, dunno how far he went into the 3rd stint, if near the end then 70laps :o

Le Mans and Nurburgring - the hallmarks of June.

Daytona is a good race to get the blood pumping as we head into the new motorsport season.

Sebring and Petit Le Mans, especially with the grids this year, are manic.

Le Mans is the big one, the one you must see but I've been to Nurburgring 24h great parties awesome track, Spa 24h great track and very relaxed atmosphere and Sebring 12h best party atmosphere anywhere.
Bathurst is still on my to do list.

The races at Le Mans, Sebring and Road Atlanta are all great endurance races, but -like RSNS- my favourite endurance race of the year is probably the Spa-Francorchamps 1000km. The combination of the LMP cars and the fantastic track makes for great racing, even if the challenge of a six hour race isn't perhaps as great as that of the longer races.

Unfortunately, I usually only get to see Le Mans and Sebring so that's what I chose in the poll, but I love 'em all.

Le Mans is an obvious choice for me, and I hope to attend for the first time in a few years.

I also chose the Bathurst 12 Hour, as I went for the first time this year, and think it has good potential to build into a great race now that they've moved the focus from Production to GT3 cars. Hopefully McLaren, Mercedes and others come next year, as well as Audi again.

I know it's blasphemy, but in the last few years I've preferred the Nurburgring 24 hours over Le Mans.....Maybe it's the whole range of cars/drivers taking part, but it's an incredible event. Germany knows how to put on a Motorsport show - and the Nordschleife......well what more can you say? I actually enjoyed the Spa24 last year as well. I think it helps that all 3 are on great tracks...Daytona doesn't do anything for me.
As for the other, Sebring & Petit Le Mans are fantastic events....and the Dubai 24 could be in the future.

Someone should turn the blind eye to current conditions, and organize a nice, old-fashioned style Targa race. 40+ miles lap on public roads, with single starts every 30 seconds.

:drunk:

But until then, any endurance race would do. If only there were more competition within - too bad that Peugeot left, and Toyota didn't yet quite enter...

I love all the 24h ones for the pure through the night feeling when the sun just lifts over the horizon.

As a side point I dont consider any of the 6h's to be endurance races.

Not a mssive Endurance fan, but I'll watch the Le Mans all the way through, and I'd do my best to watch Sebring, Nurburgring, Bathurst, Daytona, but as for the others on the list, I'd only sit and watch them if they happened to be on when I'm watching TV

Not really a big fan of endurance racing but that doesn't stop me from taking a strong interest in Le Mans because, well, its Le Mans! Used to be a Pug & Ant Davidson fan but i guess my alliance was always more with Ant as will now be supporting him at Toyota.

Also follow the guys from the GT Academy too, a great story to see someone like Lucas go from gamer in 2008 to on the podium in LMP2 at Le Mans 2011.

EDIT: How could i forget the DeltaWing project! Cannot wait to see that thing racing at Le Mans. Such an exciting, innovative motor.

Sebring. Le Mans never got my interest. I like the race, but I don't think the circuit is very good. At least from playing it in games, the circuit is not very difficult nor challenging.

And the Petit is a good sounding race on a terrible race circuit. I just don't like Road Atlanta. A great club circuit that tries to be a big time place.

Why is the 24h nurburgring not part of the WEC?

Why is the 24h nurburgring not part of the WEC?

Because the fastest cars that run in the N24 are GT3 cars. WEC is LMP1, LMP2 and GTE, and the prototype classes can't run safely on the Nordschleife. Also, different organizations running the races, and the N24 is much more of a club race, has almost 200 entries of which a large amount are lightly- or more heavily- modified road cars which range from Lexus LF-A and Aston Martin Zagato to small-engined cars like VW Sciroccos, Peugeot RCZ...
