I would like to know whether the "Nordkehre" was used in Formula-1-races held at the old Nurburgring (Nordschleife) during Qualifying. Was it permitted to leave the box, pass through the "Sudkehre", drive along the back straight, pass the following left turn, turn right into the "Nordkehre", cross the start-finish-line (whichs results in a total of about 2 km) and then perform a complete lap? Or was it directed to complete a full "warm-up-lap" of about 22,8 km before crossing the start-finish-line and performing a time-measured lap? In "Grand Prix Legends" unfortunately the Nordkehre is missing so I always have to complete (nearly) a full lap before crossing the start-finish-line which is a little bit longwinded in my mind.

Yes the short circuit was used both as a start to a timed flying lap and also just as a quick warm up/tuning type circuit.

The Nordkehre was used as a part of what was called the "Peanut," circuit for selected Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM) races in the late 70's early 80's.

This was called the Start und Zeil Platz and was used for an F2 race ,I think, maybe F3, when the regular circuit was snow,or fog bound.

Actually, its correct name was "Betonschleife" (concrete loop), and it was used quite regularily for National Racing before the Ersatzring was built.

Fines, is that "Ersatzring" the new GP Circuit?

By the way what happened to the Betonschleife?
I can't see it in modern aerial pictures of Nurburgring.

I think it's now under the pits complex.

Of course it was razed when the Ersatzring (derogatory for new Nürburgring) was built.

Actually, I'm rather convinced that the Nordkehre was the LEFT-hander leading out onto the Nordschleife. I do not know any name for the right-hander we are discussing here, but I guess that the original question was if it was used in F1 practice so my answer is pretty useless... :)

If you mean the first left-hander after the start, that was the Sudkehre

Christian is right, the 'Nordkehre' is actually the left at the end of the backstraight, where Niki Lauda had his famous crash on the opening lap of the 1974 GP. I think the short-cut is called 'Betonkurve' (concrete bend), but don't know if that's an official name.

Ray, 'Ersatzring' means that it is a substitute for the original 'Ring'.

Yes, that's fine, but where did my question go?

I can't see it anywhere, and I know I posted it a couple of days ago...

Yes, the infamous PM.... I looked at the thread and wondered if maybe I'd simply forgotten to post the question. It was one that just had to be asked.

Hey KRMKRM! Go here http://www.joachimbl...ringtrainer.htm and download the Ringtrainer for Grand Prix Legends. With this handy utility, you can start a lap from just about anywhere you choose on the Nordscleife!
