In his "first" career, Schumacher had 36% :)

Going down rapidly now...

Well assuming he could have kept winning at the same rate Fangio would have a record pretty close to Schumacher's.

Pretty close???

At that rate, the task of overhauling Schumacher's 91 wins would have been a cake walk for Fangio.

Given that Schumacher raced 256 races (in his real career) for his 91 wins, Fangio's win percentage would have taken him to a whopping 120 victories in the same number of GPs!!!

Besides Jim Clark's winning rate would have allowed him to run Schumacher close, by taking him to 89 victories in 256 races.

I think this thread is conclusive proof that Formula One is indeed up there with politics and religion as one of those 'forbidden' topics that you don't discuss at any cost with someone you're not acquainted with unless you want to have a painfully-detailed, overelaborate argument about something that, in the grand scheme of things, is ultimately pointless.

 Mister Legend of Zelda has it right.

Looking back at http://forums.autosp...howtopic=103142 it's funny how Vettel didn't even figure in my thoughts.
Alonso is very close now, he might even reach it still this season, but if Newey keeps making great cars, it won't be late before Vettel joins the club. Perhaps 2013?
It's a pity McLaren seem to lose themselves so easily so often. Hamilton is bound to wait quite a while before joining the 20 plus club, not to mention 30...

As long as we're all sharing what we think will happen, I think he'll win a few more races THIS SEASON! If Ferrari's pace and form from the British GP is confirmed in Germany and Hungary, he may very well best Mansell's record before the 2011 season is over. It's my view that Alonso is the most complete driver on the grid. If he has a fast and reliable car underneath him, he can battle it out with drivers in superior equipment as he has done last year and this (not to mention with Renault in '08 and '09!). But if Ferrari can give him a car that has the superiority of the recent Red Bull's (and I believe they are recruiting the right people to do just that), he will have at least 5 WDC's on his trophy shelf before he hangs up the nomex for good...and considering the competition he's up against, that will be mightily impressive! Tho, I'm also sure many posters here will find a way to devalue even that accomplishment!

It´s always the same story... Alonso seems always performing better with an inferior car, and it also seems in his whole career he never had the best car of the grid !!! Ok guys, there´s on history some drivers who never had the best car but the second car or the third of the grid, and they REALLY won. Alonso had a very, very competitive car on the race on 2010. At Bahrein, Monaco, Australia, Canadá, Barcelona, Hockenheim, Monza, Singapur... but he did a lot of mistakes (China, Australia, Monaco, Spa, Valencia...) and if he was close to win was because of the poor realibility of Sebastian Vettel´s car who had issues on Bahrein, Australia and Korea when he was leading.

Alonso never did a "Piquet" or a "Keké Rosberg job", that´s it winning a WC without having the best car. Even if he won 27 races, he never achieved one WC without the best car, the same as Keké (82), Piquet (81 and 83), Stewart (73), Prost (86), Schumacher (94), Mika (99), Kimi (07), and even Lewis Hamilton (08).

No. Unfortunately the FIA will be there to cut Vettel´s talent with pathetic rules. They not want another Schumacher... they prefer see Hamilton vs Alonso battle (and penalty it) than see Seb´s fly away from pole position !

What I´m pretty sure is that Sebastian, after 168 races, will achieve more pole position than Alonso did on his first 168 races...
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

On 71 races he achieved 1 more pole position than Ayrton Senna after 71 races. That´s a fact and I think before his career ends he will be one of the greatest "poleman" of all time.

the F2007 may not have been as reliable, but it was the fastest car. Kimi did great, and that is a fact, he was the best driver that year, but the F2007 was the fastest car. it took more wins, more Poles and more fastest laps.

Ferrari would have even won the WCC that year, even if Macca got DQed.
