Hello folks I'm on the last lap with collecting information.

I have been searching the archive of the Irish Times for information on speed events in Eire to tidy up that part of the book on Race and Speed Events in the British Isles. The archive has been very useful, but I still have some outstanding questions. I hope someone out there can help – I’m really up against the October deadline for delivery.

The first five queries relate to sites listed in “Irish Racing Venues; the definitive list” thread on the Nostalgia Forum.

Athboy Co. Meath Kart Track Sprint Course – haven’t turned up anything

Fota Estate Sprint course presumably the one near Cork, was it on the Island or does to site refer to the Industrial Estate nearby? I can’t find anything.

Mitchelstown hillclimb can’t find anything beyond a Stage Rally in 2005

St Patrick’s Trian Hillclimb No other information

Mullaghmore hillclimb no further information.

Altidore hillclimb – need course information

Laragh hillclimb need course information, near Glendalough and did it use the “old military road”?

Shay or Shea Lawless which is correct?

Kilmoganny hillclimb Co. Kilkenny need course information

Curlew Hill Co. Roscommon need location and description

Ben Hill, County Galway need location and description

Bray Promenade Speed Trials - did the event scheduled for 15 September 1951 go ahead? I can’t find any results.

Does anyone have any information on these outstanding queries? Hope you can help.

I’m off to check the archive for early events in Northern Ireland.

Can't help on any of those, Julian, but are you aware of the course used for bike races in Cork in 1940? AFAIK, the only event.

Thank you gentlemen.

I didn't know about the 1940 Cork event. Phoenix Park I had heard of.

Did they use the Carrigrohane Course?

I am not including motorcycle only courses - there are simply too many of them. When I checked through one months issues of Motor Cycling for 1923 I found 24 new sites that I had never heard of. Someone else can have a go at that.

Edward thank you for the information on Fota. I have also decided not to include off-road courses so no Autocross Rally Stages or Rallysprint only courses. So it seems I can safely leave Fota out of the equation.

A road circuit, near the Ford factory. Similar layout to Phoenix Park with a long straight and tight corners at each end. The area is an industrial estate, but the road layout is still there, so it may have been industrial even then. Unusual meeting, run on a Saturday evening in June.

Edward

Thank you. A couple of supplementaries if I may..

Is St Patricks Trian up in Galway near the place of that name?

Do you have any results for the Bray Promenade? I couldn't find anything in the Irish Times in spite of chapter and verse about the problems of setting up the meeting.

And.....I think there is another St Patricks Trian. A one-off hill climb was run by Donegal MC in (I think) '97 or 98. The hill was situated on the outskirts of Derry/Londonderry, just over the Donegal border. As far as I can remember it was won by either Donal Griffin (Reynard GM) or Ronnie Maybin (Delta GM). I think I was third !

Thank you Richard, I'll try the Donegal Club to see if they have records.

PS Edward, I found the Bray results in my Autosport notes. Doh! (Cecil Vard set btd in his XK120 in front of Dickie Lovell-Butt in his monoposto MG Magnette)

Good Morning Ted

The interest remains, but the need has declined as "Motorsport Explorer" was published in 2012, which seems like a long time ago now. The book is no longer in print, but available secondhand.
