Both Dallara chassis, both Renault engines. Seem equal enough.

GP2 has a better reputation(by being associated with F1 and in theory attracting better drivers) and about twice the costs(which I can't understand).

But otherwise yeah, kind of the same thing.

And for anyone else not sure, he's referring to World Series by Renault 3.5 or whatever it's called these days. Not the little cars Raikkonen came from.

Thought gp2 had Ferrari units? When did that change?

And GP2 has more power I believe. As well as f1 tyres.

.....and as of '12 WSR will have DRS. Seems that yet again there are too many different feeders. Is it really THAT hard to consolidate into one ladder to the top? Oops, common sense alert.........

There's enough drivers, teams, and seemingly money for both series. And World Series is the favoured one of Renault Sport who do a lot of promotional work with it. Their race weekends are actually pretty interesting in how they're setup/run.

Just that GP2, by association with Bernie, has a sort of exclusivity with F1. I don't like GP2 for many reasons, that being one of them. Constantly trying to be THE feeder series, cars that look exactly like the current terrible crop of F1 cars and the exact same spec Pirelli tyres. What the **** is that

And honestly most of the GP2 graduates into F1 are boring and the same, you get the occasional glimpse like Hamilton but what of the rest. I think the whole idea of GP2 is very cookie-cutter

It's better when you have F1 with mixed backgrounds, DTM etc..

Never? You may be thinking of A1GP.

GP2 cars are the more faster, both a more powerful engine and mini-F1 chassis, and they role with F1 weekends to get the most publicity.

I don't believe they've ever had. They've ran Renault engines from the start.

It was commented at Silverstone last week that the '12 WSbR engines will be Zytec engines. I guess Renault are shifting strategies.
The 3.5L Zytec will reportedly put out 80bhp more than that of the current 3.5L Renault unit.

So a Zytek engine (rather than whoever was doing it previously) but still Renault badging?

Hamilton, yes. But you think Petrov, Perez, Kobayashi & Senna are boring - they have given most of the excitement on and off track in the last two years. And Glock, d'Ambrosiso, Kovalainen, Maldonado, Hulkenberg, Grosjean et al are no more boring than graduates of WSR like Alguesauri. A particular race series doesn't make people interesting or boring, it is their characters and backgrounds.

If I was a F1 team principal, I would always look first at GP2 graduates. Drivers from elsewhere would need to have shown something really exceptional to get a look in. DTM is not a breeding ground for F1 drivers - di Resta was just parked there by Mercedes.

I'm sure the WSR cars are much slower than GP2. Wasn't GP2 almost as fast as backmarkers a few years ago?

Yet when I saw WSR, it didn't strike me they were touching F1 or Indy or similar formulae.

It was a 3 second difference (GP2 over WSR) at Hungary, and a lot of that difference can be made or lost by tires.
