Apologies Dewie, having almost lost track of bikes around then, I was only vaguely aware of Alex's death.

Then he's a knob. US Army sponsor cars in several disciplines, but significantly Nascar, and consider it their most successful recruiting drive. US Marines and Navy also sponsor in motorsport.

I will never forgive Brigadier Nickolic for Banning Team Army Racing. His reason was that Motor Racing is dangerous.

Wasn't there a German charioteer who had only one leg? Was it Heinz Luthringhauser?Anyone got any pictures of the one legged racer Tony Calvey who raced in late 70's & early 80's, with Alex Greatwood under JC Racing? My scanner's not working otherwise I have 1 picture.

It's been on before Phil
!
If I recall correctly, that's my old mucker Phil Landeg (85) in the background!
I bought the bike from him in 1976, a 350 Maxton, and had some tidy rides on it.

Yes Barry your right on both counts, it has been on before & it is Phil Landeg push starting the Maxton.

In 1980 Tony Calvey with Alex Greatwood with their 1,000 cc machine, had been racing for about 4 years under the name "JC Racing" Tony said "when we started everyone was using flashy names. We decided to call ourselves after the character Joe Cool in the Peanuts strip- more of a joke really. Since then, the name has stuck."
They almost quit in 80 as money was a real problem. Tony said " I think we are the only team in the world with a one legged man".

Indonesian GP 1977,
A very strange GP in as much that a 17 lap race on the Saturday and on Sunday morning another 17 lap event followed in the afternoon by the main event a 7 lap dash.
Points were awarded to each event with double points on the 7 lap main GP race.
In the first heat we finished 4th, in the 2nd we finished 3rd and pulled off 1st in the main GP race.
So we were awarded 2nd place in the 1977 Indonesian GP.

This bike is the 1976 Biland Seymaz, pictured a Spa Bikers Classics in 2014.
It was owned at this time by my brother, it now lives in Switzerland once more.
My little TZ350 Windle can be seen in the background.
The first pic on this thread is a Schmid bike with an OW31 motor.

Just spent a while looking back through this whole topic. Time well spent! Hopefully there will be more added now this has resurfaced. Someone must have pictures of the Ward/Beckett Saab? Fond memories of that beautiful machine at Snetterton in the '70s. Can anyone remind me who the BP sponsored outfit of that period was ridden by? I remember being chased round Coram & passed on the exit of Russells on one of those midweek mixed practice days. I had a never to be forgotten closeup view looking down onto the Yamaha(?) powered outfit. It certainly left my Formula Bantam behind!!!!! David.

Dave
Can't answer your question but I do remember the Snet practice days when solos and sidecars ran mixed sessions.
When I first started in 1969 we had cars out too. Nothing short of bloody dangerous.
The photo of Alan Sansum is very 70's - LUV it

I think the outfit in BP livery was George O'Dell's Konig powered Renwick. IIRC when George went to Yamaha power in or around 1975 it was a Windle chassis, and possibly Shellsport colours
