I thought the problem on Schumi's car was connected with his crash with Growjohn. It wouldn't have occurred had they not touched.

What new sidepods and nose?

How can you possibly know that?

Nice drawing of the revised sidepods.
Astonishing that they introduced such a big package at a track like Monaco but obvously it worked really fine.
Hope they stay competitive on this high level now.

I didn't know they had new crash tests for the upgrades?

"They have been introducing new parts since the Mugello test, through the Spanish Grand Prix and now into Monaco.
This is not just a few bits and pieces here and there - it's a major piece of work.
There is a revised nose, new front wing, new sidepods with a much deeper undercut in the front forward corner, and new gearbox.
In Mugello and Spain they had various bits and pieces on different cars, but in Monaco they consolidated it and all the updates were on both cars.
The new, lighter gearbox will help in two ways with Mercedes' biggest problem this year - rear tyre wear.
It has given them the chance to change the rear suspension geometry a little and it will reduce inertia at the rear of the car.
Mercedes have moved the brake calipers underneath the upright instead of on the front and increased the size of the rear brake ducts, which has probably improved the airflow through that brake assembly.
The changes have meant they have had to redo the rear, side-impact and front crash tests, so they underline both how determined Mercedes are to succeed as well as the breakneck pace of development at the front in F1.

Would really be nice to have some direct info from the team itself about these things, communication somehow does not seem to be their strong points. Anyway, good to see they are really on it.

I'm going to go ahead and be a vindictive arsehole and ask that Mastah stop panicking, breathe and then read the link above. Then go and drink himself silly drunk and rejoice that the team isn't incompetent fools and aren't playing donkey kong in brackly.

Then come back a new man with whom we can all get along.

But why does one car keep failing? The updates are nice, but when you have difficulty completing more than 75% of a race they are next to useless.

Can't it just be very bad luck?

The other car war pretty strong, obviously. If they succeed in ironing out the BS minor issues with a more tedious quality control-or whatever-, they seem to be on track.

If very bad luck means not a single trouble free weekend, probably. And last year was not much better and 2010 too.

I didn't realized Mercedes brought so much updates to Monaco (and Barcelona).

But the nose seems unchanged besides the FW pylons.

Yep. Mercedes did much better job than it firstly indicated after Mugello's test.

I think they still need to prove themselves on a couple of more different tracks. If they perform well in Canada and Silverstone, then I will admit that W03 is very good.

But in all honesty, I only expect good performance in Canada. They surprised me hugely in Monaco but I'm still skeptical about the performance on the high speed corners such as the likes of Silverstone.

MercedesAMGF1: Interesting reply from one of our engineer ‘Pezz’ when a fan asked what @Nico_Rosberg meant by "my engineer & my team gave me a great start"
MercedesAMGF1: First: the engineer prepares a special engine map to help the driver control the engine revs prior/and during the start 'launch' phase.
Then the engineer decides level of clutch engagement to use during 1st part of launch. Initial second after lights go out is most important .

Not very interesting news to me. Launch control can still go badly despite the special engineering. The latest Flying Lap had an interesting discussion with Webber regarding his start in Monaco. http://smibs.tv/the-flying-lap
