It all went to hell in 1988, that narrow look to the cars has never looked right. Ever. It's been a slow decline since with the hideous 2007 or 8ish cars with a billion little flip ups and what not being the worst of them.

1988?

If you mean 1998 then I have to strongly agree with you. I've never got used to the narrow look of the current cars. They still look strange to me, even after 15 seasons.

PLEASE, Bernie, get us the 2-meter-cars back!

The 2008 cars looked better than the 2009-present cars, but from what I've heard the car design, because they were more narrow and higher off the ground; they did not allow as close racing as the new cars because of being too aero-dependent.

You have to be joking, its flipping hideous with all the little wings and aero devices. Reminds me of a chavved up saxo.

Love the old Matra on the previous page and the pic of Bruce McLaren.

I've also got a soft sport for the late 80s early 90s cars that have been posted here, low, wide, minimalist compared to todays cars.

Some mroe to add to the pot:

Lewis had a #1 on the car in 2009. Not such a dead give away.

And Jenson had the number one on the car in 2010

Thats the 2010 car.

This is the 2009...

Have a go @Mclaren 2005, Renault 2005 and honestly I always liked the Mclaren 'dress'. BMW was also always quite nice, not good at least according to my stylebook Toyota 'forever' and Spyker, HRT.

No. 2014 bodywork rules were scrapped.

stepped noses were interesting, I hope I will also see some next year.
current F1 are always the prettiest to me. doesnt't matter if high nose, low nose or whatever. pretty or menacing big a$$ supercars are found elsewhere. live with it.

Perhaps it's just my poor vision, but I can't see the shark fin from the top view!

look between the 'a' and 'f' of Vodafone on the rear wing.

Yeah I meant 1998 as the start of the decline and yes the 2007/8's are effing HORRIBLE.

I found the stepped noses interesting. What should come back are the bat wings in front of the rear tires. That looked so good.

The 2008 cars weren't horrible. The extra aero bits were interesting. Some people are just nostalgic, like getting back to cars from the 60's and 70's is even remotely possible, they just bring them up because they were simple and clean. Plain simple and clean to some people is beautiful, technical and detailed with crazy wings to some people is beautiful. Why is anyone's opinion wrong? They're not, they're merely opinions. Remember that next time someone says this or that is horrible.

For some reason I don't actually mind the current narrow rear wing and wide front wing. Maybe because I've only really followed F1 properly from 2007. I always hated shark fins though and wasn't sad to see the end of them.

Some 2012 managed to make the stepped noses work but others (Ferrari I'm looking at you) never grew into their new look.
