I have been looking at some pictures of the Ferrari 2001 in another thread and I am honestly very dissapointed with its looks. It looks ok from the rear qarter or from the top but seen from the side it is rather hideous. It looks rather like some kind of long nose tapir animal. Of course this may make it fast but the topic here is purely the cars looks.

Hooster, when the car was launched we had a similar conversation here.
Some (including me) thought the car absolutely sucked ass! I was so dissapointed with the new design that I started a poll about which one looked better compared to the 2000 machine (my favorite F1 design ever) and the result was dissapointing as well. I think about only 1 out of 3, or 1 out of 4 only thought that the 2000 car looked better! Some serious lack of style on this BB methinks! But it also could be a simple case of denial: "If it's gonna be champ, I don't care how it looks", "Aerodynamically it is better, so I like it more", "Hey, it's the Ferrari, I love it!" etc, etc.

I am glad you share my feelings towards the appearance of the new Ferrari challenger. Join the club of angry F1 fans and let's all bombard with e-mails the Ferrari designing team and demand a better looking No1 car for our viewing pleasure in the season 2001.

I voted 'could care less'. I am not in love with the lines, but I didn't warm immediatly to the F1-2000 at first. I came to like the way it looked as the season wore on. (Winning sure helps!).

I hope the results speak for themselves!

Beaty is in the eye of the beholder... I think it is the best looking Ferrari since 1995. F310 and F300 were the worst, but this is matter of opinion, and in my case, certainly not a case of denial.

Personally, I could care less. If the car is effective, then that is all that matters to me. so far, it seem to be doing well, so there is my point!

I'm with Max on the beauty of the F1-2000. I didn't know that sidepods could be so pleasing to the eye until I saw the F1-2000. It also just had a lean, purposeful quality that most other F1 cars lacked last year. I don't think F2001 is as pretty as the F1-2000, but this new car looks better to me than all the other V10 Ferraris.

"Sometimes, you know, the ugliest cars are also the fastest."
-Enzo Ferrari
To Ferrari designer Mauro Forghieri on the awkward-looking, but 1979 championship-winning Ferrari 312T4.

This is an oddball topic. racecars are meant to go fast not look good. I'm sure everybody will get over how the new Ferrari looks as the season wears on. Also, it seems to me that msot people take exception to the nose cone. If the rumours are true & we see different nose cones at different tracks, will some of these people decide it "looks better" with a high nose? Personally, I think it looks fine; and if it does the job well then that's all that matters isn't it?

This isn't a case of denial either, as implied above. Who remembers Jody Scheckter's Championship winning 312T4 of 1979? That puppy certainly wasn't gonna win any beaty contests. the beauty in an F1 car is in how it works, not how it looks. You guys should look for beauty in other places. Like your girlfriends. You do have one, don't you?

It's not really such an oddball topic, in fact it's a very common point of discussion (not necessary a correct idea) that fast cars tend to be esthetically pleasing to the eye. In fact Adrian Newey was once asked this very question, and his reply was that given two equally valid design concepts, he might choose the better-looking one, but looks was definitely at the bottom of the list of design criteria.

Michael Schumacher on the F1-2001: "I don't really care if it's a beautiful car or not, as long as it is a winner".

Sums it all!!!!!!!!

I'm wondering why all these people who could get less voted to say they couldn't.

Most of you know i'm not the greatest Ferrari fan, but i absolutely love the new car! It's the only car that actually looks like a real racing car, with it's super low nose. When i saw it running around the track on the tv it almost turned me into a tifosi immediately. :) It just looks so fast, even when it's stationary.

I really think that its great. I had been hoping for several years that Ferrari would have a low nose. The F2001 reminds of the gorgeous 412T2 of 1995.

McLaren have gone the other way, and their car looks very ugly and awkward.

like most I suspect Iwasn't convinced about the looks.

the problem with the nose is partly optical illusion in that in full side on view it looks lower than it really is as it blends with the side element of the front wing

in all other views it looks a winner!

The only gripe I continue to have is with the sponsor logos in the side. It's a hideous collage, how I wish Shell's was the only one put on display there. The car itself looks totally alright to me.

Obviously the only correct answer is "I could care less'. The best looking car is strictly the first one across the finish line. The other 21 cars look like crap.

Just what is a designer supposed to do...."hm, I'll put these lines here so that the car will look good, even if it will handle like a BAR. At least the Atlas BB members will like it."

Any decent designer spends exactly 0% of his time thinking about how a car looks. If they spend more than that, than they need to go get another job.

Redfever,

Ya know if you diss Ferrari even just once you won't be damned to hell. It's ok to say it's ugly. Don't have to turn everything in Ferraris favor.
