I think a lot of people have had the Welcome to the Jungle idea over the years, I know I have, it's perfect for an F1 intro.
I can't stop watching that mocked up trailer. It's astonishing how well the song fits. The chequered flag comes down on a beat, Lewis punches the air on a beat, Button and Vettel both do the finger on a beat before the camera pulls back from the car with that lovely guitar riff...
You're right, it would just annoy them at best and would never react to it.
For the actual intro, it could have been a lot worse. I don't think it's as good as it could have been (as we have seen with the GnR mash up), but I don't mind it.
1. Open this video. Pause it at 0:32. 2. Open the Sky intro. Pause it at the very beginning (EDIT: And mute it!). 3. Press play on the first video then quickly switch to the Sky intro and press play. 4.
(Of course, you'll know what's coming as soon as you open the first video, but you might still find it funny to watch. Be sure to do a manual volume fade-out when the music gets quiet for maximum effect! )
Now he has a gig at Silverstone to join such greats, such as Rick Parfait Jnr, Eddie Jordan and friends, Chico, White Angels ??? Etc etc. Another no mark at the dour after party.

You do realise that the genius is pretty much all down to the video editor who selected and trimmed clips to match a regular 4/4 beat at a very ordinary 120ish tempo? There are literally a hundred thousand songs or more that would fit and look good.
I'm a huge fan of GNR and that song, and think it looks great with that video, but a lot of people seem to be surprised at the way a film made to fit a tune also fits another tune...
Not impressed at all with Sky's choice of theme song...
Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been posted, but this still sends a shiver down my spine every time I hear it and makes for an awesome intro.
i dont know how they will follow this it still gives me shivers.
However i just hope it isnt anything like "lift me up lift me up ay aye aye wap ah"
*edit* oh god ... i knew i shouldnt have skipped pages 6 and 7 ... that cant be the music ... oh dear.
*edit 2* I was listening to music that i listen to that "pumps me up" while watching the intro. I was suprised to see how well Immediate Music - Fahrenheit synced up
What a dull, crap, dreary dirge of a 'tune' $ky has excreted upon its viewers.
Bloke singing it sounds like a limp lettuce too.
It would probably do well at Eurovision, that's how sh1te it is.
They could've got Michel Legrand to compose something - he did good work on the music for the movie 'Le Mans'.
Haha, great summation of my feelings
That song is such insipid, unconvincing, unsuitably melancholic shite. I'd give the producer 2 life sentences for that, and 6 months community service to boot.
I put the music over the video so you don't have to have two tabs. It's so much better than Sky's choice. SkyF1 Take 2 The music fits the video as well like Jamiednm said with the timing not just the style.
The real missing aspect is Formula 1 effects. Just little engine sounds/snippets of commentary possibly too added during editing really creates another dimension to the sound and makes it Formula 1. Personally for my tastes, the Sky video has too much old F1 footage, some is ok but this is the intro for the 2012 season... it should have modern cars as the majority.
Edit: The Chain is awesome, it's Formula 1's theme for many, but it can be improved upon... I love hearing The Chain, it was new to me when F1 came back to the BBC, and I love the sound of it, but Sky don't need it to make an intro.
Edit again: Yes Raiosa that's brilliant, with some fine tuning/editing with some added F1 effects that would make a superb intro:
