The current South American F3 champion is Fabiano Machado.

Is he related to Ayrton Senna? Senna's cousin (and manager) was called Fabio da Silva Machado - so is that the father of Fabiano?

Da Silva's not a rare name, small chance I guess!

Exactly.

Hugely long bow to draw and doubt it's true. Remember, the reason Ayrton Senna elected to go by "Senna" was because he felt "da Silva" was too common in Brazil, and he wanted to stand out.

 There is a possibility I suppose but it's like meeting two Scottish people called McDonald and assuming they're related. There are so many of them that it's unlikely. Also, Brazil is a very large country and there are probably hundreds of thousands of people with the name Machado.

Silva is the equivalent of Smith. Probably the most common name in Portuguese (even Senna was ashamed of it and never used it...)

(s)he is guessing about the connection between Fabiano Machado and Fabio da Silva Machado, not Fabio da Silva Machado and Senna... so why LOL at him/her and say da Silva is a common name?

Oh... wait...

Maybe Senna is related to the French river.

He wasn't ashamed of his name he just knew he had to stand out a bit, and even though its only a name every little help. Just ask Bruno Senna Lalli.

Senna wasn't ashamed of it, he just wanted to stand out from the rest, and "Senna" was the more unusual of the two names.

Who cares? If he is good enough, then he will succeed.

Read the thread title again.

I read it again. now you read the first post, where the OP is guessing about the connection of Fabiano and Fabio, a relative of Senna.
