Yeah, it's odd seeing a Toyota powered Lotus sponsored Lola. But then again, Lotus really never distinguished themselves with a engine builder outside the Cossie years.
But at least they built their own cars...

They won the WDC/WCC in 1963 & 1965 with Coventry-Climax. And won races with Renault and Honda power (with thrid places in the WCC with each), so fairly distinguished? But then again, Lotus really never distinguished themselves with a engine builder outside the Cossie years.

This race looks to be extremely competitive.Heidfeld will drive one of the McLaren MP4-12C around the Nordschleife (VLN series). I think he will also do the 24h race there. (19th may)

Although the MP4-12C GT3 seems resonably quick, but it's having teething troubles and very unreliable yet.I follow the P4/5C James Glickenhaus team efforts on Twitter etc. They race at the Nurburgring 24h, and recently posted about Nick Heidfeld being a contender, vowing to beat the former F1 driver in a tongue-in-cheek kinda way. I believe the P4/5C (100% custom carbon chassis but based on an F430) is pretty quick but I'm not sure it's much competition to an MP4-12C!

The MP4-12C is very difficult to drive on the Nordschleife - due to minimal suspension travel it has. One of them was wrecked in the pre VLN-Season-Tests. Tow more chrashed in the first race. They have to sort out the setup, to be quick around the Nordschleife. You must have faith in your car and stability in the setup to be clock fast times round the eifel mountains. The cars reactions must be predictable. Let's see how Nick copes. On the other hand: He is the only human being, that tackled the Nordschleife in a modern F1. I was there - awesome experience.

Nice debut for Quick Nick in the VLN-Series. The Car started right from the back of starting group 1, because the quali-times were disallowed (don't know why). Together with teammate Sascha Bert Nick made it up to position 6 at the finish. Quite a good drive from both - as the other McLarens crashed out again. Nick was getting faster all the time, did a really good job altogether. I think we will see him back at the wheel at the 24h in three weeks time.
Thanks for the update!

Why do you drag Kubica into this ridiculous and not funny exchange? Some sort of Kubica complex you have there?

a nice video feature about Nicks VLN-Debut including some impressive onboards. There you can see, what VLN racing is about: 200 Cars of very different speeds on the narrow Nordschleife. A lot of risk, but a lot of fun also

That's maybe the most exciting in car video I've seen. The bit starting at 3:00 where he splits the two cars - it's just crazy from then on. He's going through traffic in a very skilled and *clean* manner, in some really hairy places. He's not bombing on the inside, but he's going inside with control. Very impressive. Then the what, 200 mph flyby the safety car at the end? Great video....
It's funny how the trees get larger on the straight.

Also it's nice to see a McLaren GT3 car to finish a long distance race. That's more of a rarity still.

Not easy taks ahead of him, as the Porsche specs cars are know for being hard to drive.

Tenth in the race from 17th on the grid (wet qualifying). A solid result for his first race in this series.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. With 5 or 6 dnf drivers ahead of him it wasn't too hard to get 10th. Nice finish battle though.
