I hope the title is self explanatory, driver's names that are the brand of a car but not driving that brand car (or other contradictions in the spirit) for a bit of fun ....

Holden driving a Ford ....

McLaren driving a Chevron ..

Already OT, but I do remember a Murray Walker-ism at a Belgian GP at Zolder, when he bellowed "And there is Williams in the Jones!"

I seem to recall a driver named Ferrari who drove other marques. I don;t mean Enzo, it was perhaps an Anglo-Italian club racer in 70s or 80s?

750MC I think. . .

Also more Holdens in the 1990s (8 Clubs or Bentley DC meetings):
Jeremy Holden drove a Morgan +8
John Holden drove a Frazer Nash and a British Salmson
Duncan Holden drove a Triumph GT6
Peter Holden drove an MG Midget
plus
Lots of Fords driving everything else

Michael Bentley drove a Ford Escort Mk.II
Gideon Hudson drove a Porsche RSR Turbo
William Morris drove ERAs

And so forth.

2) Returning the compliment - Scott Goodyear using Firestones

Bruno Ferrari

McLaren in Eagle in 1967.

Various generations of Brabham in all sorts of things.

After leaving the car company bearing his name, Jacques Bignan won the 1928 Monte Carlo Rally in a Fiat.

McLaren in Eagle in 1967.

And the following year Dan Gurney drove a McLaren in the last three races of the season.

Didn't Louis Chevrolet begin his motor racing career driving for Fiat?

Wayne Ford built and drove a Holden Special in Victoria...

Paul Morris has raced both BMW and Holden.

John Surtees also drove Lotus.

Bob Holden's list includes:

Peugeot
Holden (no conflict there! (FE and EH S4)
Lynx
Morris
Ford (Falcon, Escort and probably Cortina)
Toyota
BMW (I'm pretty sure he's had a go in one of these)
Volvo
Lolita (with thoughts of Ian)

David & Gary Brabham driving anything other than a Brabham!

Chris Amon driving a Lola, Lotus, Brabham, Cooper, Ferrari, March, Matra, Tecno, Tyrrell, BRM, Ensign or Williams!

Finally my initial thought was "Wouldn't it have been nice to have seen James Hunt driving a Reliant Fox!"

2) Returning the compliment - Scott Goodyear using Firestones

Posted Image

Scott Goodyear (running on Firestone tires) "blew it" when he passed the pace car in turn four while leading on a re-start with I think only 10 laps left. He never answered the black flag for that infraction and USAC stopped scoring him on lap 195, I believe.

This was Firestone's glorious return to the Indianapolis 500 after a 20-year hiatus and they had it in the bag.

I've always wondered if Goodyear hadn't done that and if he'd won the race...

How would the Firestone marketing mavens have handled that?

There is a carpet store in Exeter called this. I assume it's a play on words and not the owner's actual name!

Continuing the off-shoot here...

I once worked with a gentleman from Columbia and his first and last name, spelled out, was Angel Angel. Of course, neither name was actually pronounced that way but that's how it looked when he wrote it. Further complicating matters was that he married an American girl and her first name was Angel. So, there was Mr Angel Angel and Mrs Angel Angel...

He talked about all the problems that caused and said "fortunately, we had different middle names".
