Hi all,

As promised, here it is, a thread dedicated solely for people to predict who, what, when things will occur in the 2012 F1 season.

Note: Please keep this thread clear of trolling, abuse & other such crap. Simply keep it to showing everyone how wonderful you are!

2nd Note: You can make a prediction, and edit it later if you choose, but no later than the THURSDAY prior to race number 1. If you do edit it, perhaps add a short explanation why as well, just to show your train of thought.

F1 WCC 2012 - Red Bull
Race winners 2012 - SV, MW, LH, JB, NR
Biggest surprise - How well the tyres hold up and how many teams roll the dice for 1 or 2 stop races.
Biggest disappointment - Ferrari
Biggest controversy - Exhaust blowing
Best race - doubt I'm alone in going for Canada, rare to have a bad race there.
Edit - Rookie ----- JEV seems to have something about him, no doubt Toro Rosso will suitably back their favourite. Not sure the car is much more than an incontinent dog though.

Safe predictions at this time, we'll see how the rest of pre-season testing goes before I settle for this set of selections!

Biggest surprise: maybe FI, regularly challenging for podiums in the mid-season lull.

Biggest disappointment: overtaking will be more difficult and 2011's bizarre overtaking stats will not be repeated this season. (some may view this as a disappointment..)

Biggest controversy: lots of penalties handed out to drivers up and down the field over breaking certain aspects of the new sporting regs only to be appealed\challenged by the teams, will soon turn into a farce. Wild guess here.

Best race: Melbourne!

Likely on one of the classic tracks--either Canada, Spa, or Suzuka. Hungary has the potential to throw a curve ball, as well. Maybe the USGP will surprise, too.

You guys are so predictable, anyway here's my 'prediction':

F1 WDC 2012: Felipe Massa! (Webber goes into the last race with a comfortable lead, but gives it away in dramatic fashion by crashing in Brazil. Leaving Hamilton almost secure for the WDC. But then Massa ignites and drives the race of his life in front of his home crowd to win his first 'heroic' WDC) All kind of conspiracy theories will do the rounds, but in the end Massa will just inch Hamilton.

F1 WCC 2012: McLaren
Race winners 2012: Vettel, Webber, Massa, Alonso, Button, Hamilton, Schumacher, Grosjean, Perez.
Biggest surprise: Schumacher (just not close enough to fight for the WDC)
Biggest disappointment: Raikkonen (should have stayed home)
Biggest controversy: There will be many! 1. blatant scene politics 2. Alonso not doing what he should (a very 'unlucky' start won't help him either) 3. Vettel becoming the crash kid again. 4 and most of all, the F2012!
Best race: The first and the last. Melbourne and Interlagos. Oh and Valencia will be surprisingly good, better than Spa and Montreal (no joking)

Seriously, since I'm not the script writer.... Alonso will just or just not beat Vettel. No more!

Massa delivers under pressure in a career-deciding season. Bonus: Sky knocks it out of the park.

Biggest Disappointment
Another dismal season from Webber who goes out with a whimper having never recovered from Korea 10'.

Biggest Controversy
In the first part of the season it'll be Bahrain; the second will be whoever is crashing into each other (pick two out of Hamilton, Massa, Vettel, Webber and Michael) and the final controversy will be the brewing FOTA business and the landscape begin to shift in anticipation of Bernie's succession; there are a lot of very big questions F1 has to answer in the next 5 years.

Best Race
Wherever grip is hard to come by. Canada has delivered in the past two seasons but look for a surprise wet race at a Tilke-drome with a dark-horse winner (Lotus or Mercedes) to knock it off the top spot. (In part because it'll be a surprise whereas Canada has expectations to live up to.)

Rookie of 2012
Flip a coin at STR.

Bold Prediction Going Forward
Biggest story at the end of the year will be the silly season fates of Massa and Webber and the implications of two big-time seats opening up simultaneously...or not. Throw ole' Bob Kubica in there for fun.

Biggest Controversy - Vettel will have another meltdown 2010 style and crash into Webber again. RBR to ask Mark to "maintain the gap" or "Vettel is faster than you". And steal his front wing again. (I mean, apart from Bahrain, which will be cancelled again. I hope.)

Best Race - MELBOURNE! Because it's always Melbourne.

Rookie of the Year: Daniel Ricciardo

Bold Predictions Going Forward:

di Resta, Hulkenberg and Senna will all score podiums this year, Senna at a wet track, possibly Monaco .

Grosjean will out-perform Raikkonen.

Lotus have to sit out the first two races because of continuing chassis problems.

Texas will not only be finished on time, it will host a cracking race, while India and Korea will have severe problems again.

(I would say "it will rain in Melbourne at some point during the weekend" but that's not a bold prediction, that's automatic.)

Webber and Ricciardo will finish on the podium together at at least one race.

Team-mate battles:

Button > Hamilton
Alonso > Massa
Schumacher > Rosberg

Ricciardo > Vergne (by two points)
