Looking at this forum (and some of its most notorious members) dinamics for a few years, this is a question I had in mind for some time now...

Do you follow a driver or team relagrdless of any other factor, or it varies depending on how each season evolves?

In my case, have to say I dont have fixed loyalties ...I do kind of follow certain drivers of teams depending on how the season evolves.

I did follow Massa on his 2008 campaing which fell just short of a champioship, as much probably as I did follow lewis when fighting as a rookie against Alonso at McLaren. And I wanted Vettel to win his first championship, but not much the second (was rooting for Jenson last year!).

Both. 1st and foremost the team (Mclaren) plus certain drivers no matter who they drive for (Lewis, Jenson, Kimi, Heikki) You don't have an option for that.

I've followed Button, Panis, Raikkonen and Rosberg to each and every team they have driven for since arriving in F1. I follow my favourite drivers to teams for sure. Kimi's stay at Ferrari was pretty painful for me, because I am by no means a Ferrari fan at all but I had to support a red car because Kimi was in it.

I still have teams that I'll always support though (Mercedes, Sauber, and Renault/Lotus). I'm pretty warm towards McLaren as well, though I wasn't behind them too much in 2007 with all of the nonsense going on there throughout the year coupled with rookie Hamilton's grating personality (which has, thankfully, become a lot less grating over time).

Soft spot for Williams and Button but really just like following the sport for what it is. A great race is a great race.

Not sure I can vote.

I follow McLaren, Williams, and a lower end team, last year Lotus (Caterham) not sure which this year
I typically follow British drivers and usually a couple of rookies which change per season maybe Charles Pic
A soft spot for Kamui and Heikki

I just love the sport, don't really want to see a dominance by anyone really though could cope with Lewis or Jenson

I follow the driver, and the team he is driving for. But this last thing is secondary, I'm more of a driver fan, although I'm starting to develop some love for certain small team from the back of the grid.

About the second part of what OP is considering (and that some people didn't seem to take into account when replying...) Yeah, I follow the driver I support no matter he's fighting for wins or to finish in the top 10 (although I hope I don't have to witness this last thing ever).

EDIT: btw, I want my driver to win or do nicely. If my driver retires or have a bad race I don't really 'enjoy' watching the others doing nice stuff no matter how spectacular is. Some may take this like that I'm a bad loser but actually I enjoy following F1 more like this...

McLaren! :D

Which is me of course, and Button's always been my main driver. I support a few other drivers regardless of teams, even if they go to teams I don't care for. The opposite was true for when Kimi was at McLaren, I couldn't stand him but I remained at Macca supporter.

Used to be 1 certain driver for me - Hunt, then Mansell, Hill, then Raikkonen

Nowadays there's more than one driver I particularly like. I'll be eagerly cheering on Kimi, Jenson and Nico, and also keen to see how Paul Di Resta gets on....

Now, team.

You can easily guess who was the driver

I follow the team (Macca) and the driver (Lewis Hamilton). It just so happens my driver drives for my team.

But if Lewis Hamilton were to drive for another team. I would prob just support him but not necessarily that team, loyal to Macca.

Although, I do love Kamui.

Always prefer drivers. Can't see the rationale in supporting boring, sterile teams.. at least with the drivers some of their personality comes out on track..

I follow both a driver and a team.
I am lucky they are together right now but if they went their seperate ways i would still support both.
I dont see it as a contradiction as there are two titles even if the drivers one seams more like favoured driver with some teams, reinforced by the stupid rules that allow teams to fix race results without a care for the legitamacy of the sport or fans.
But in the end great races are the single most important thing for me and what keeps me coming back for more.

Used to be McLaren because of merc. Now I fully support merc. To the extent that if they stopped their involvement in F1 completely, Id watch DTM. Im that blind a fan. Probably because I grew up with old mercs about.

Must say, I never supported Michael and LOATHED his dominance (especially since I used to be a macca fan). But since his comebqck Im absolutely aching for him to do well again, and not just because he drives a merc (though it does help).

For many years it was team (McLaren), but last year I realised I'd be happier if Lewis wins and Jenson retires than if Jenson leads a 1-2 finish, so clearly I'm more of a Lewis fan at the moment.

sometimes driver, sometimes team

for a team, its similier to a driver, something about them (or a figurehead) catches your attention about how the operate. with falcon tyre team, it was the paintjob, and the attitude of going to compete with michlin and dunlop

Obviously i'm an Alonso fan. I've followed him from Renault to McLaren back to Renault and to Ferrari. I'll probably follow Ferrari once Alonso retires. I have a soft spot for Button too. He's the man! I wish he was the second driver at Ferrari.

Michael Schumacher fan since very early 1992, although I think his comeback is crazy and stupid I will support him no matter who he drives for, from RBR to HRT. Even though I think its a mistake to come back I am a loyal fan.

In F1 - Button, but also Williams.

In sportscars - I generally support the team who my favourite driver in the field is driving for.

In tintops, the same. In F1 teams are more permanent than in most other series.

I don't think it's as black & white as this poll would make it seem, but I do like certain teams/drivers more than others. I don't completely ignore the facts/results though. If one of my favorite drivers does poorly my opinion of them won't be as high as it once was (Kimi after he joined Ferrari for example).

I will always follow Mclaren the most of any of the teams though, no matter how good they are doing. There is just something special about that team for me, and they always seem to sign some of the best drivers. 4 of the 6 champions on the grid have driven for Mclaren (Alonso, Raikkonen, Button, Hamilton).

I don't really have a favorite driver though to be honest. Kubica was probably the closest to being a "favorite" in the last few years, but I also like Hamilton, Vettel, and Kobayashi. I also have great respect for Alonso even if he isn't one of my favorites.

I have had a strange pattern. As a kid, I loved Ferrari. Coming to F1, from 1996, I supported MS and Ferrari. In the early 2000s, although I supported Ferrari, I wanted to see more teams winning, and always wanted a good fight to the championship, hence I would be happy for Williams-BMW when they came back. The same for Alonso-Renault, I rooted for them in 2003/04 season. I guess my motto has always been, there should be a good fight for the championship, with Ferrari coming on tops :) . That sets the adrenaline pumping man.

I just follow the sport these days, I do like McLaren though, and Ferrari nowadays. I like villains and in Britain, Ferrari and Alonso is the ultimate in super villainy :smoking:

And Force India and HRT, because nobody else does (except the bandwagon Di Resta and Hulk fans, which is why the team is so popular nowadays)

I like to hate on Raikkonen because his fans enrage me

Kobayashi makes me laugh on the track and on twitter

Caterham annoy me, too smug for my liking

Mercedes I don't like, but secretly I wish for them (especially Schumacher) to do well, but I know they won't :cat:

It it a good question. I used to follow Williams for many years, but in latest years they are midfield at best so I shifted my focus to Mclaren, but I guess I am more loyal to drivers, I will follow a driver to whatevr team he goes to, unless it is Ferrari, as this will make it next to impossible to support a driver driving for them.

Teams I have supported over the years are Ferrari, McLaren, the original Team Lotus and Williams. My ideal combination would be Lewis in a Ferrari...I dare to dream that one day it may happen...
